Soundproofed the car today
I'm very interested in a kit as well. The reason being is that with the Spugen exhaust installed, it get's quite loud and deep in the lower RPM's even with retaining the stock pipes from the cat to the "Y". When the mufflers are heated up after a long drive, it seems to get louder. I have noticed that it is louder inside of the car than it is on the outside probably due to the lack of sound deadening materials.
I love the sound of it once you hit the upper RPM's, but it's just the deep bassy sound below 5K RPMs that sometimes get to me. Will applying a sound deadening material under the roof well help? If so, which material or product should I use? What other applications would you recommend in this situation? I'd greatly appreciate any helpful information. Thanks and please keep us posted.

Chipperman.................You had alot of valuable information to share, but I did want to jump in and set the record straight on some of your comments on dynamat, standing waves, and some of the "Other" brands of acoustic dampening materials since that is my area of expertise. First..Dynamat addresses the problem of resonations. When you attach a piece of Dynamat to metal, it changes the resonant frequency at which the metal vibrates at..........typically much lower than it was before. When metal panels vibrate in a vehicle, it creates sound waves very similar to what a speaker produces, but usually out of "Phase", which reduces the clarity and output from your sound system. If you could reduce the resonations from all the metal panels in the S2000, you would have a much quieter and solid running car. Keep in mind that alot of the sound you hear from your exaust, differential, etc., is actually resonating the metal panels which in turn act like a speaker and transfer the sound into the cabin area. Second....there are alot of so called "dampening" materials on the market. Some are good, but most are made from petroleum products which have a rather nasty smell to them. Use caution when using and purchasing these products and make sure you know what you're getting before you buy. Also.......if you decide to go the dynamat route, use it sparingly, as it is a rather heavy material. For those of you with sound systems already installed, put your favorite cd that has alot of bass in it, turn up the volume, and it makes it alot easier to locate the offending rattling panels. I hope this helps those of you that want a "Quieter" ride. Good luck and let me know if there's any questions that I might answer for you............................................... ..........................................Bob
