Want to replace my 2001 stock speakers with a better set that will give me better sound.

I would rather not install the tweeter on the door, but again if you guys say that I should then I will.
I am going to hold off on the deck repacement until there is a complete fool proof way to get JVC's mp3/CD model 99 deck with full fnctionality from the console controls. (That includes the MUTE
button)
I am also open to the 2 4\" behind the seat speakers but again I want my MUTE button to work so I dont want that just now.

Back to the speakers, one set I was looking at are Sony's XSV1635M which are 3 way speakers. Woofer, Midrange and Tweeter.

Is this really good or just Sony marketing?

you might want to try posting this in the electronics forum. I added 6.5" Polks to the doors, & 4" Polks to the rears(ala Lucid's mod), & I'm really happy with it.

There is a SIMPLE fix for the rear-mute!!! Goto Central Texas forum and ask Roitiz how he did it...

My rear speaker kit for OEM installs changes MUTE to ON/OFF. Accomplishing the same thing with the added benefit of pausing/resuming the CD.

Dash controls are saved with most decks (like the JVC) by use of a PAC SWI-3 unit. Mute can be wired as on/off or mute depending the deck you use.

As for door speakers, follow my guide:

Door speaker install

Most speaker with a top down mounting of less than 2" will fit. Others require basket cutting. And some require a custom ring. Speakers bought through me receive the cut baskets and the OEM door harnesses. I'll have the custom ring ready in the near future.

I installed the Sony xplod xsv1621, 3 ways. Improvement was well worth the $70 and 40 minute installation. It does not blow your socks off, but it is a tremendous improvement over stock.

Still considering Lucid's two rears, but I am tall, and sit with the seat all the way back. Any comments about that, Lucid? Will it still sound better?

That is one question I have as well.
I am not that tall but I have the back of the seat flushed all the way to the back.

I think most people have the seat back touching the back wall - myself included - still makes a big difference. Why use only have your radio?
