Default spoon snorkel

I sold my spoon replica snorkel thinking there wouldn't be that big of a difference.. but wow.. the top end power seems to have choked up by a lot.. anyone have a similar experience?

I always been curious about the HP gains from the Snorkels, From J's racing, to spoon.

Supposedly the gains of snorkels cannot be measured since the fans (if the dyno facility even uses one) used do not increase their speed as the cars supposed speed on the dyno roller increases. The fan's speed is usually constant so therefore the dyno cannot accurately measure the alleged increase in power the snorkel would add.

I will tell you this though, if you look at the snorkel up close you will see that there is a major restriction in intake size where the "bend" is. This is the problem with the design and therefore the amount of air that can enter the airbox with the addition of the snorkel is minimal. So if you barely increase air intake, you should barely increase power. It is probably the butt dyno that feels the difference.

There is definitely a difference. I can feel the extra push with my J's intake at highway speeds from the ram air effect. A rule of thumb is that unless there is around a 5% power increase, a typical person won't be able to feel the difference. My calibrated butt dyno figures it is around 10 hp when running over 70 mph.

Of course you can't dyno ram air, so the only way to accurately measure it is with a datalogger (like a G-tech) while running at speed. I personally haven't bothered figuring it out with my datalogger. Doing the swap for a back to back test isn't worth the hassle, since lap times matter more to me than having some WHP number to post.

Geoff,
I have one coming Tuesday. I hope that you don't want it back.

I noticed very little but enough change when I installed my J's snorkle.

I noticed a drastic change on the highways after I had the snorkel installed. In the city, not so much. But I thought it was definitely worth the money, and it complements the engine bay quite nicely at the same time.

Why intake setup are you running now?
