Springs or coilovers?
I was considering the Comptech coilovers, as well as the Bilstein PSS system...but I decided to give 'springs only' a try before I went the coilover route, figuring I could always sell the springs if I didn't like them.
Well, I bought the KG-MM DR21 race springs from Mingster (Richard Ming). I fitted them myself in just under 2 hours (about 30 mins per corner). The longest part is undoing the rear suspension tower bolts especially on the left rear shock tower!
The end result? I love them. The car is not at all bouncy as you get with some other brands as it is a dual rate spring, and the DR21's lower the S2K about 1.5" which is a fantastic compromise. Sure, I'd love to have a slammed to the ground ride that you can get with coilovers, but at least I've kept my front bumper! The car rides very well....yes, it is a little more bumpy, but I can live with it for the benefit I get. Handling seems pretty much the same as before, but there is some wicked negative camber on the rear wheels. Oh well, my original S-'Oh'-2's are about wasted anyways.
Just a word of warning though.....if you get the RM Racing black front splitter (looks great!), you'd better drive very carefully into driveways if you have the KG-MM springs! I've already trashed one splitter extension already and am not buying another one until next spring!
HTH.
Cheers!
