downshifting in the turn is called shift lock (type of drift). i occasionally downshift right right before the turn getting extremely close to shift locking. people should watch the drift bible (best motoring dvd with keichi) to see what techniques in driving cause drifts (so you can avoid them). im sure you can you watch them all on youtube if you dont want to buy the dvd

Yeah, like I said it's all well and good when you're driving conservatively. If you always complete braking before entering the turn you'll be fine.

Perhaps next time it is raining goto a massive parking lot late at night and try out different turns at different speeds to get a feel of when the car is gonna break out on you.

Thats what i have done withe very car I have owned....except the s2k, as I would never drive it in the rain. hehe

No excuse, if the car is twitchy then slow down MORE. I can understand a person spining a car in a snow storm but not on just wet streets.

Take your car to an autocross or an HPDE (high performance driving experience). Don't mean to sound harsh but there is just no excuse for spinning out anywhere but the track.

If this is the first time you spun out, don't worry it won't be your last. It will be one of many. Just learn from it. Understand why you spun out each time. As long as noone gets hurt, its all good.
