UPS is much better (reliable) for packages. Generally 5-7 days coast-to-coast. Excellent (accurate) online tracking info. It's usually the shipper causing delays which can be determined by an online track. Heck, you know if your UPS man has your stuff or not!

FED-EX does a better job at handling letter packages for some reason. Online tracking is inferior and not as reliable as UPS.
As someone who used to ship hundreds of packages a week to clients overnight, my experience was opposite. UPS could never find my packages nor could they change routings in a timely manner should the need occur. BUT< for standard delivery of packages, UPS has been fine.

FedEx is stronger in tracking and in overnight deliveries, but since the advent of trying to do ground service through the old RPS system, their reliability is the SH!TS.

Recently, UPS has improved some and for standard shipments of packages, I'd say stay with UPS. The FedEx Ground service is the pits!
