Still Lookin' for 7th Gear

i was bothered riding in my friend's rsx -s and his 6th gear cruising rpms were much more reasonable.
2500rpms may be a stretch considering the huge difference you'd have to have from 5th (1:1) compared to 6th.

I feel where you guys are coming from with the road noise issue, but I think that has more to do with the nature of the car. Even with a taller cruising gear you would still have a lot of noise from the car due to the soft top and lack of sound deadening materials.
As for MPG...I think as xviper said you would really only benefit in the rare occassions where you'd be cruising on a dead level surface with little to no resistance from headwind, etc. I think that most of the time the engine would be close to or at the point of bogging and you'd end up using more fuel as the engine tries to compensate.
Honestly, If you took this drivetrain and placed it in a luxury car with lots of sound dampening stuff I doubt you'd notice the higher engine speeds at all. Its just the nature of the beast.

I own both cars and I think its all relative to the engine. Cruising at speed in 6th gear in my RSX-S the rpms are roughly 1k less than the equivalent in my AP1, however the difference in the two engines' operating ranges is also roughly 1k rpms.
I used to think that I wanted a taller 6th gear for highway cruising, but between my exhaust noise, wind noise, and road noise, I don't think it even matters... My car is not a good highway cruiser, and it would take too many sacrifices to make it into one.
Maybe a BMW 335i Coupe would make a nice stablemate

It ain't the motor strain at issue here.
Its the untoward noise, busyness, and fuel consumption we're talking about.
The motor would love it as well.
Why not an electric overdrive in 5th and 6th? Drop out under load automatically and easily

you brought a sports car, not a eco box.
The only time I miss having a lower (numerical) drive gear is when making the 800 mile trip to the Dragon. But I have it figuired out. Next time I'll put the car on a trailer to get it there!

taller 6th would't be bad, but i'm not complaining.
