I don't know why some AP1 owners can't concede HP/tq superiority to the AP2... Duh... In a naturally aspirated car like ours, there's no substitute for displacement. And, without some serious race-hardening, you'll never see over 9K in a street engine. So what if the AP2's redline is a little lower.

Numbers-wise, there's no question. The AP2 engine has more power on tap than the AP1. Whether that translates to faster on the track is up to the driver and the course.

Put an '03 ecu in that '01 and the dyno plots will be much closer. Honda had very conservative (read: RICH) fuel maps in the upper rpms early on, and as they recieved more feedback on these engines, they slowly leaned out the fuel maps. An 03 ecu swap into an 01 car can yeild results of 5-10 rwhp, so basically, the f20C is limited from factory in the ecu. Trim your AFR's up and advance the timing and you'll make really nice, useable power in the f20c. Even before the itb's, I could walk ap2 with an AEM EMS fully tuned on my otherwise stock car.

IIRC, the 2.2 is now being used in other, if not all, geographies.
This is correct. As of MY06, Japan switched to the 2.2L engine. Other areas (AUS, Europe) still have the 2.0.

I don't see anyone not making that concession.. but regardless you hit it on the head. . Whether that translates to faster on the track is up to the driver and the course, but it comes down to personal preference. Do you want a little more power, or some more revolutions per minute, knowing that whichever you choose, you'll more than likely end up in the same place at the same time

Who really cares? There's no class rules, tax benefits, or any other practical reason in the US to limit displacement. Only benefit to 120hp/L is if you get off on magazine racing.

I love the F20C, but not b/c it has some magical hp/L #.

who freakin' cares about hp/ltr?

Now is this just as simple as obtaing a MY03 ECU, taking out/unplugging a MY01 ECU, and replacing with the MY03 ECU...

In other words do you just swap ECU's and it instantly takes, or are there a few other hidden steps involved...??

^^^Yes, except you need to take your car, key, and new ecu to a "friendly" dealership and have them set the imobilizer so the key and ecu match, otherwise it'll never start.

i never really understood why some guys right over 200cc. yes the AP2 makes on average about 10rwhp over the AP1. MY06+ are making 215 or so on dynojets.

once tuned the F20 becomes a formidable little motor.
