whats the helmholtz resonator? are you referring to the small box on the side of the airbox like i was asking about earlier?

and since when does our car have torque at 4k-4500 rpm? lol j/p
I believe so, I haven't looked that close at that part yet, but as long as you're not talking about the in-box divider, i believe you and I are on teh same page.

...as for 3-4500RPM torque, this is a daily driver for me, I'll take all the area under the curve that I can get!

My drive home is much more fun than my drive to work. I got to wind it out a bit, and get the tires to make some noise.

Outside temp: 68
Starting airbox temp: 77.1
Ending airbox temp: 89.5
Peak air temp 107.x

The drive home reinforced the morning theories, the box gains temp slowly under 50mph, 60mph and up it bleeds heat slowly.

It peaked at 107, and slowly started dropping again while sitting in traffic so i think that's the limit of the heatsoak... by the time I got it home it was back down to just under 90.

We'll see how it fares tomorrow without the lid!

from my last dyno about 3 months ago, my car make the exact same power, exact.
Does it sound better? I'm thinking of cutting out the divider only to improve the sound. But I don't want to do it at the cost of performance.

Otherwise you eithor A) deal with the powerloss but great sound or B) buy a new intake and get a great sound with no powerloss
Which aftermarket intake is loudest

That looks nicely done. Final result as far as sound/performance?

That sound is a little deeper, I mean very little, when you let off the gas. The inside is definitely cooler as far as temp. goes.

I cut the divider out of my stock air box - car sounds slightly louder at throttle, but otherwise is as usual. The reason the box cover is important is because when you are on throttle, there is suction that will draw the hot air forward.

See, that's what I wanted to do... but on the outside of the box so it wouldn't lower chamber volume. Nice!

Had to necro-post this, since interest didn't seem that high, I never finished updating it back when. W/o the lid, it was peaking 140+, and as high as 160 at one point.

I went back to the lid, and never thought about it again.

interesting.

I'm really curious what temps you would see if it was insulated like above. I think you should try it Noizemaker. I'll send you a dollar if you do.

You said the temps were rising when under 60. So, do you think diverting more air flow to the box would help temps? I'm referring to a cooling plate or a snorkel such as the spoon. Or do you think simply cutting out the center divider and removing the resonator would be enough?
