All,

Is it just me or is that cover for the top a pain in the A$S. Every time I put the cover on and tuck the plastic tabs under the lip of the back of the roof well it comes back out. It may take it 1/2 mile or so, but as soon as I get up to speed it is always back there flooping in the wind. Is this a defect of my cover? I really think this is just a crappy "cheaply" designed cover tie down method. Any idea's how to make it stay in place better?

This looks like another area where an S2K after market product could make a fortune. I like the simple look of the cover, as opposed to some of the prototype hard plastic covers I've seen.

Thanks,

Ditto! My problem is that I find it difficult to get the four middle snaps on and just as difficult to get them off. The best I've found is that I get inside the car and lean over the back of a seat. My 18 year old son stands behind the car or beside the car and helps maneuver the top. We get them lined up and snapped and it takes about 20 minutes. Getting it off is just as much of a "Keystone Cops" adventure.

Then when I get going, I have a problem like J-S2K.

Remember I've never had warm weather for my S2K. The warmest I've ever put on the boot cover was 40 deg F.

I've been wondering if something changed in MY2001 to make it more difficult since I don't think the boot cover got such bad comments in MY2000.

I LOVE the "finished" look that the boot cover gives the back, but I hate the hassle of putting it on or off.

Quite a few others have reported a similar problem. Personally I've never had an difficulty getting it to stay firmly in place. A couple of obvious things you might want to check: Are you sure the top is completely retracted? Are both straps secured on sides? Are the four fasteners properly engaged?

I never fold mine and never put it in the trunk if I can help it. I lay it out flat on the garage floor if I'm not using it. That avoids the cover distorting. I believe distortion is the biggest problem if the tabs keep popping out - especially if you have at least one of the fasteners not fully engaged. I suggest that if you can't find a logical reason why it's doing this, ask the dealer for a replacement cover under the warranty. You might also get them to check that the top is folding all the way to its down limit. (I saw a new yellow on the showroom floor the other day and noticed the cover didn't fit on it. Turns out the top would not retract far enough, and prevented the tabs on the cover hooking under the lip.)

I don't like the boot cover and I never have. It is cheap and is a pain to store. However, I have had both the original and the recall replacement. I can put it on in about 30 seconds and I have never had issues with it coming off. So, while I agree that it is a poor design, I would not say it was a problem. Also, it looks far better than with it off which is why I put up with it.

I never had trouble with mine until I hadn't used it for a while. I had it stored flat for several months. When I tried to use it again it started coming up in the back. I am going to have it replaced this summer.

the difficulty I've found was it's almost impossible to just push the snaps on. I found it much easier to pull them out, slide on the snap and push it back in so it locks.

Yeah I'm having the same problem, I can snap the outside clips but the two inside will not clip. I took it by my dealer and they said the downforce will keep it on the car. It didn't come off but if didn't feel very convinced, I'm planning on trying to figure it out when it warms up a bit.

I don't have any problem with mine but I store it open not folded. Wonder if it's a temperature thing. I also find you need to make sure the top if fully retracted cause it can be a real tight fit if not.
