Despite all these amusing responses...the one that said "driving school" is the best use of your money (of course...the only other sane response is from another Canadian! Big surprise. ). Otherwise...you're gonna have a nice car with all these upgrades and you will not have any idea how to drive it properly. You'll go 50 around a corner, panic, lift off the throttle and end up in some bushes. You'll cry, bitch about the car on s2ki and then go buy yourself some sissy ass car with the insurance money. Let's try to prevent that, shall we?

The car is awesome fun, a true sports car. And you can only learn to drive it well and to the limit with experience and training.

http://www.scca.com. Find some autocross in your area. Listen to the most experienced drivers. Practice often.

If you don't listen to me and I see a "this car is dangerous and spun out on me for no reason" thread in your name in the future...I'll be very, very angry. Now go have fun in your car!

I ditto the driving school and track days.

After that, take SCUBA lessons if you are not certified. There is nothing like the experience of legally driving WAY over the speed limit, or of breathing underwater. Completely liberating experiences...

If you are SCUBA certified already, then consider taking your first flight lessons.

Or build a brand new school in Indonesia.

But there is no need to change your car at all until you discover a defect that needs correcting.

(Unless you dressed up dolls as a kid and just miss the experience of blowing money on a new outfit for Barbie...)

Is it just me or do others see much more rewarding, gratifying ways of spending $2000, more rewarding than buying a new exhaust pipe?

I didn't notice you cross-posted so I'll copy my reply here:

To clarify something:
In case you don't know, "driving school" is not "driver education." The only people who are suggesting driving school are probably those who have gone to driving school. You are thinking, "Oh, I'm not a pro, maybe that will help (but I'm pretty good already cuz I can drive my SHO fast...)"

What you don't know (if you haven't GONE to a high performance driving school) is how it is not like any kind of "school" you have ever attended! It is not like school at all!

You get to drive really fast, do braking and avoidance drills, abuse the HE11 out of somebody else's car (or if you're lucky, find the limits of your own car.) You get to work a skid car, maybe do some autocross. You can compare ABS vs. no ABS, to see how much it makes a difference.

People aren't suggesting "driving school" because they think you are a bad driver! People are suggesting driving school because it is a blast AND it wll make you enjoy every day of driving your car that much more!

Anyway, I hope you don't dismiss the idea too quickly. Lot's of people suggest it because A) It's a lot of fun, and B) You have the money to do it IN YOUR HAND. Many people can't afford to have that kind of fun because they bought exhausts, new wheels, fancy "performance" oils, whatever, or they never had the money in the first place. You have the money, hopefully you will buy yourself some fun with it, instead of blowing it on a line for your signature...

Thumbs down

my '90 ford taurus sho
Oh sweet baby jesus on a bed of lettuce, I'm glad we caught you now. Who knows how much damage we're averting.

Ok...first lesson. FWD vs RWD. The S2000 will not turn a corner the same way your SHO did.

Taurus = Front Wheel Drive. If you cook the corner a little (read : go too fast), the car will just go a bit wide. You'll still make the corner. Basically, the car will not turn in enough...big wide corner. This is called understeer.

S2000 = Rear Wheel Drive. Cook the corner, and you'll end up facing the way you came. Your car will turn TOO much and keep turning. This is called oversteer.

Sounds simple...but learning the difference requires practice and some instruction. Please, please....RUN to your nearest autocross practice. Tell them you need help and need to be watched VERY closely. We love to help newbies.
