When I walked out to my car this morning, I noticed that my OEM S2000 Honda cover had been stolen off of my car. I need to have my car covered, but don't want to blow a couple of hundred bucks every time some wahoo wants to steal my cover. Any ideas on new covers, locks(?), safety precautions?

that's odd. the cover won't fit any other car, unless it's smaller... probably just some punk kid wanting to show off to his buddies. sorry to hear that...

the cover has an eyelet at the bottom around the driver's side door, maybe consider putting some sort of cable lock on it or something.

man, thats low!
you can lock the cover on... cable under the car is best with a lock. maybe you can find plastic covered cable.
another not as secure choice would be rope. that would slow someone down- they would have to want the cover enough to cut the rope or untie it (maybe use nylon and burn the ends in).

Most of the places that sell custom-fit car covers also sell a cable lock kit for a few bucks more.

I thought the Honda cover was just a dust cover and not designed for outside use. As such, you're probably better off buying the Weathershield type of cover anyway.

just a heads up.

i had an Acura cover with lock for my first gen GSR integra (back in the day every idiot with a 'teg wanted to steal my GSR badges and one mofo scratched the car up pretty bad prying them off my car).

i made the mistake of leaving the cover on in moderate winds over night. despite having a plastic coating on the cable, the lock left a pretty good scratch on the rocker panel of the car. apparently moving back and forth all night was enough to scratch through the cover material. all i can say is that i was scared crapless because i thought i was going to have to match aztec green pearl paint and knew that would be a disaster. luckily for me, my detail guy was aces and able to buff out 99% of the scratch. since the scratch was on the bottom of the rocker panel, i didn't worry too much about the remaining 1% as the naked eye really couldn't see it.

just a heads up. covers can be great, but make sure you keep your wits when the weather turns to ca ca.

ps - sorry to hear about your original cover. its a shame that folks have no respect for others or their property anymore.
