Jeff:

I think your hypothesis about the grazing being lamp heat induced fails as the grazing continues out into the orange lens... an area insulated from the internally generated heat.

As for external heat, I think some other Arizonan would have chimed in by now if desert heat were causing this repeatedly

Second, and I know I'm repeating, but what is the probability of two failures on the same car on housings made in two different machines from different batches of polycarbonate pellet at different times?

About the same as there being another Bruno Magli-wearing-guy with size 15's and OJ's DNA, and not being OJ. But as OJ proves, that doesn't mean you can't get off the hook if you want to argue.
