Well I took my car in to get it fixed and after 3 days got it back (first day they didn't even touch it, grrr).

Yesterday I get a call that it wouldn't be completed so they extended my rent-a-car they gave me since they had to order another part. Upon picking it up today I asked what part they had to order after it was apart. Turns out it was the first gear ring... some teeth were actually broken off!

WOW! I've only gotten a grind a handful of times, enough to be annoying, but that was a shocker. I suggest those who are putting it off for one reason or another, get it done. You don't know what might be happenning in your tranny.

Car drives great now... it was a little stiff off the lot but is working in nicely.

Cheers,
-loki

I just made the appointment to have mine worked on next week. My son works for a Honda repair center and told me about the re-calls. He called me again that night to ask why I sounded so happy about the Trans grind. I told him I was releived by it being the trans and not my getting old. Anyone remember the spark advance being on the steering column

loki,
I can not beleive you already had problem with yours. Specially since weather has been so cold around here. Anyway, I guess I am lucky. So far , no issue with 1-2 grind. I hope it does not show up later.

remax4, Last time I used a spark advance was on a 1914 American La France fire truck. It had tranny grind too.

loki,

under what type of conditions did you experience the 1-2 gear grind? Was it only under heavy acceleration? I have a 2001 model, and I had never seen any evidence of the problem until I shifted to 2nd at about 8,000 RPM.

Thanks.

Since it happened so rarely for me compared to others I'd have to say it was happenning in a variety of situations. Some were at high speed, others were when the car was cold.

Hearing that some of the 1st gear teeth were broken I'm sure didn't help things. Frightening since non of the gear grinds I experienced were never intense enough to do such damage, maybe the previous owner? but he only put 900mis on it.

The tranny still feels a bit stiff right now after getting it back and the stook definitely likes it's fluids warmed up rather than cold.

Ummm, ya know I would get the work done if I could find a service dept. that would FREEKING DO IT!! Guess Ill have to drive to florida, where Sondra had hers done no questions asked!

BTW when mine would start to grind it was under hard acceleration, BUT then it seemed to stick and would go on all day, low RPM/high RPM/slow shifting . . . wouldnt mater . . . then it would be just fine for a week! Im not leaving my car at the dealers for a week while they screw with it TRYING to make it grind. I am thoroughly PO'd at Honda Service, they havnt called me back after 4 visits about the same thing ?!

Oh yeah, Ive been to three dealers, to no avail
