Stop Increasing our Insurance Rates with Driving Stupidity!
With all the wrecks that have recently occurred, the insurance rates for the S2000 are sure to skyrocket. Because it is a new vehicle, the S2000 is very affordable to insure. If the accidents continue, our insurance rates are going to increase, and that's not going to make Shark happy. And when Shark isn't happy...
Don't let the insurance industry kill the S2000 like they did with the pony cars (Mustang, Camaro, T/A). Drive responsibly and take your reckless top-speed antics to the track!

Anyway, it seems that many of the accidents I've seen posted here have not been due to excessive speed but rather because the S2k's rear can step out pretty fast if the driver isn't very careful, especially in the wet or on rear tires that are past their prime.
But you are definately right that our insurance rates are definitely going to suffer...I've really been suprised at the number of accidents reported on this forum alone in just the 6 weeks since I got my S2k.
I had the same concern, but when my insurance renewal (State Farm) arrived last week the rate was flat from last year. I think all the bad stuff that happens to S2000's shows up here on the board and gives us a false impression that the car is a poor insurance risk. There's thousands of us out there that never have any problems.
I pay approx $600 per year for full coverage thru State Farm, which is the best insurance $$ I have ever spent.

RedMenace.....just cusious as to how your S2000 is insured.
I'm 31, no tickets, car is garaged here in a semi-rural area (low theft risk) of Michigan and I pay about $1150 per year full coverage. Is your S2000 insured as a daily driver or second vehicle? May I ask your age range as well?
I'm thinking that I may have to speak with other insurance companies to get a better rate.
Looking forward to your reply!
Cheers,

Insurance in Michigan is about 75-100% higher than in Wisconsin. My rate (for a different car) would have gone from $450/yr to $800/yr had I insured it in Michigan (I used to live in WI). So your S2000 rate is actually "comparable" to redmenace's. Don't ask me why MI is so high, it just is.

I live in Dallas and pay $1050/year for the S as a daily driver. Where you live contributes to the cost of insurance as well. Sure, some places will be cheaper but it depends where you live and who you are using. State Farm may sometimes be a little more expensive than others but it also has to do with the quality of insurance and deductibles as well. His deductible may be lower than yours.

I can't speak for the US insurance angle but only for how it works in Alberta. Besides the obvious (which I won't address) certain factors will influence your annual premium. If you reduce your collision and all perils deductable, your premium will be reduced accordingly. When a person says "full coverage", does that mean "full coverage"? You know, O deductable? I tend to not think so. If you go to ..... say ...... $2000.00 deductable or higher if permitted, you still can consider yourself as having "full coverage" and your premium will be substantially lower. With regard to State Farm, at least where I live, they offer some kind of "umbrella" policy that involves your home insurance liability coverage. For some, depending upon their circumstances, this can significantly reduce their annual "car" premiums. This was of no advantage to me but for those with teenage driving kids, it has some benefits. As far as I know, State Farm is the only company that openly discloses this "option".
ps. I pay about $1000.00 Can./year with $500.00 ded. Compare this to when I insured a Viper where the premium was about $1250.00 (with $2500.00 ded.). Same "ball park" for both types of cars. Try playing with the numbers and see what your insurance broker has to say.

I have the umbrella policy with State Farm and while I do get a discount with it, my deductible is only $250 as a requirement for the policy. Kind of evens out in the end for the cost of insurance but I have a lot more insurance that will cover a million for any property damage or in the case I get sued for some robber falling through my skylight and suing me for bodily injury.
