Storage Options
Hi folks, looking for advice on storing my S2000 over the winter. I have no garage, so I'm between putting one of these in:

Or renting a self storage unit... Drive up access at least 10x15, likely 10x20 is needed. Thoughts?

Parking any vehicle on the grass or gravel, such as a shed, over the winter is asking for rust and corrosion in mass quantities (the brake disks will be brown in days) so the shed option will require a poured floor. Shed may take a building permit but with a driveway it's a 12 month garage. Prices on these things seem to be like above ground pools that end up 3x or 4x the cost or more before they can be used. Yeah, a $3600 price seems too good to be true. There are shed/garage builders everywhere who offer substantial buildings but prices approach the value of the car.
Winter store it indoors on a clean, concrete floor. A U-Store It room will work, there was a S2000 in one where I summer stored my travel trailer. Had to manhandle it in and out.
Not sure where you are but every Ohio county fairgrounds has buildings stuffed full of cars, boats, and RVs from November to April. I imagine the practice is near universal. I did this for 30 years when I was in snow country. Costs a couple hundred dollars a season and they usually start taking reservations about now. Car storage may allow periodic starting and running of the engine. Honda recommends a monthly run to operating temperature.

I would go for a 10x20 storage unit myself. I got one in a gated and camera protected yard for $75/mo. I have never had any problems at all. They are easier to pick up in the summer since some people just take their car or whatever out with the intent of finding a different one in the fall as a cost saving measure. Risky but understood.

I'd do the storage unit if those are your only options. Is that a heated storage unit?
Or search for vehicle storage places. I store my car in a heated facility that stores 400 high end vehicles each year during the winter. My garage at home is 2 car and we have 3 vehicles. My wife parks outside during the summer but in the winter when the S2k is not driven i store it at this facility. They charge $650 for 6 months which is very reasonable. There must be similar facilities in New Jersey.

Another option if you have room at your residence and a power source. I'd add some bags of desiccant (1# or better) as cheap insurance to the inside of the capsule.

That CarCapsule thing is pretty clever. For about $1000, that would be my option. I'm lucky that "i know a guy" and store it down the street, indoors in a massive facility for "whatever you want to give me".

If you community has a local listserve that can be a good way to find a barn or garage bay to rent. I agree about the fair grounds, that is an option in my area. Also, if you search google for car storage facilities in your area you can often find something. Also, contact friends in the area, and body shops, etc. They can give you leads.
