Thanks for the ideas and feedback. I'm torn between a backyard garage or a storage unit. Storage units around here appropriate for a car are pricey. 2 winters will practically pay for a garage.

Thanks for the ideas on alternatives. I am checking into those... Local fairgrounds don't store cars, and all searches keep returning just typical self storage facilities.

The CarCapsule is really interesting And in researching that, I found another similar device.. Carcoon out of the UK. Both are interesting devices, but I wonder how they will hold up with snow, even temporarily. In the NW jersey area, we can get some deep snowfalls. I easily have the room and power for something like that.

Still investigating...

The local body shop usually is filled with guys who have summer cars that they store in the winter. Maybe call a few for leads. Also, your local insurance agents sometime have leads. Try posting in your regional s2ki forum.

All the body shops I have ever seen are filled with sanding dust. You can't even walk in there without getting dirty. There is always some project car that lools like its been sitting untouched in the corner for decades since its so layered in dust.

Depending on your neighborhood, if it would be allowed, buy a used shipping container. 8x20, drop it anywhere in the yard, has its own floor. Boom, done. Like $2k.

@Car Analogy, just thought of that a bit ago doing some more searching, although thinking rental. There's a place down the road that rents shipping containers and trailers. Called him.. Only down side is they are practically airtight and he said he has had folks store cars in them but depending on the season, can get pretty moldy from the heat/cold changes. He said it practically rains down inside sometimes with humidity swings.

Good idea... Still looking.

Shipping containers work great but you will need to install proper ventilation to cope with the changes in weather conditions. Good luck with your choice.

They make homes from the containers these days. So they must have this problem solved. Maybe insulation, like spray foam on the interior walls and ceiling? (They kind that insulation companies spray with compressed air, not the expanding stuff ina can).

Should be easy enough to research how they address this with shipping container homes.

What I meant by that body shop reference is that the guys who work in the local body shops might be able to give OP a lead on a suitable local storage location. I did not mean to imply that you might store your car at a body shop.

Still not sure what I'm going to do, but I'm in the same boat.

Here in SW Ohio, I can get a 10x20, temp controlled, with a 20 foot ceiling, for aorund $120/mth. Had to do that a few winters, when I was married and 3 cars and an ATV w/snow plow doesn't accommadate a 3-car garage. So the Berlina got sent off to storage for the winter.

Yeah, here in NJ, it's double that, and more for climate controller. Almost 400.

Everything in NJ costs more here.

Regarding container option, what if you just use the climate capsule inside the container...
