Default Stupid interior question for AP1 Owners

Is the gunmetal brushed shifter brezel on ap1 metal plated(as if metal over the supporting plastic) or it just painted plastic?

the reason i ask is because the brezel on mine have couple of scratches and the left side of the brezel is starting to fade(dark chrome like finish instead of brushed matt OE finish)

the reason i am asking is that if it's metal plated, i want to sand it down and polish it.

sorry to confuse you all with my stupid question

BUMP for someone who knows

You have an 00, so you can clean off the paint using rubbing alcohol. this will reveal the crome-plating under it. You could only do this on the 00 and 01.

Sweet, I am having the same problem in my 01, now I can fix it

Did you do the job with the center piece in the car or did you pull it out?

bump for this thread...so it's just using rubbing alcohol on the bezel? That's it? Any other steps that us 00-01 owners should take to make it look like the above pictures?

You can't! You have an 02. Sorry

As for all of the other (00-01) owners. Yes, you can do it in the car or out. The console just pops up if you want to take it out. Just remove the shift knob and pull up, working your way around.

No, just rubbing Alcohol and elbow grease.
