I have a MY00 but the paint around the shifter was cracking so my only option was to take all the chrome stuff off. Its not actually paint, its a sticky type foil. You have to remove the trim piece and it doesnt just pop out. You have the remove the console and look underneath. There are two plastic pegs that have been melted to make it not removable. If you drill out thoes then the clips around the edges are all that holds it on. The next step is quite time consuming. I removed all the foil and then sanded and painted the trim with some plastic paint. I use texturizing paint so that it matches the console texture. If I had the AP2 radio door it would really match nice.

Sorry I dont have any pics of the process but I took a couple pics of the finished product.

Its not that hard to remove the trim piece but like I said taking the foil stuff off was really time consuming. I used some fine grit sand paper to rough it up a bit. I got some name brand paint that had plastic in the title and I think it was the "hammered' finish

Is 02-03 the same as 00-01?

00-01 have a metal surround with some lacquer on it. The lacquer wears off and looks crappy. Some rubbing alcohol takes it down to the metal.

I though 02-03 were the same?

I bought Honda JDM titanium trim from a Japanese company in 2001. I don't know if it is still available. I paid $182 for the two titanium pieces.

You can buy them from Japanparts but they are mighty expensive:

Just be aware that the dash trim and window switch trims will only fit RHD.

Click on the "shift gate + ash tray panel" picture, third down.

The picture labeled "2" has the two pieces I bought. I bought them because I cracked the original gate trim installing Rick's leather shift lever cover. I'm pleased with it though.

Be really careful applying the trim pieces. You only get one chance to do it right.

you can achieve a brushed aluminum look by taking those foam blocks that have fine sand paper finish on them, take those and go from top to bottom. i did this to mine and it looks exact.
