Default stupid move of the day

Like a genius I managed to lock my keys in the car today. Getting out of work, its real cold in the single digits, so I decide to warm the car up and go back inside to finish up the day. I start the car and lock it taking the rest of my keys and keyless entry thing with me. I come outside 5 minutes later and the car won't open, apparently the keyless entry does not work while the car is running. That sucks...not a happy day javascript:smilie('')

too bad, but your car was trying to tell you something - warming it up like that is not good for it.

given that it was really cold, i assume starting it and letting it idle might be enough to get the thermostat up to operating temperature, but the oil temp will still be low, which is the number that matters. then, if you go about driving normally, with the oil temp low, you could get engine wear.

I was just looking to get heat in the car, It was actually snowing a bit so I was driving very slow. I've never had this happen with other cars before, is this a Honda thing?

Yeah, I once tried to use my 2nd transmitter with the first key in the ignition (car wasn't running). Yeah, it didn't like that.

Good thing I hadn't actually locked my keys in the car.

Not trying to be a smart a, but wear a thicker coat or more layers to stay warm. You're probably doing more harm than good warming it up like that, slow driving is more effective.

Don't know about other Honda's but the S seems to disable the remote whenever the key is in the ignition, not 100% sure if it has to be in a position other than off, but mine definitely doesn't work if the car is running.

So, not unique to yours.

i usually just drive off when i get 2 bars on the temp gauge, and take it really slow until the car is fully warmed up(engine oil takes another 10-15 minutes to warm up to operating temp after 3 bars on coolant temp gauge).

I always just go and don't warm up my car at all. I read in the Accord manuel that you don't have warm up the car just don't drive it hard. So I took it over to the S2000 when I got it. Just shift at 2-2.5 RPM until I get out of my neighbor hood. Then Shift at 3-4k for about another minute until I even get close to VTEC.
