Default Subwoofer Weight

So I have a subwoofer i have been thinking about putting in my trunk... 12 x 12 x 24

Weight 65 pounds + Amp.

Is it bad to have that much weight in the trunk?

I read in the manual that the weight limit is 400.. I weigh 200 and my girl weighs 105..

Is it best for me to just get a single speaker box to put back there?

sell that sub and get something that weighs less - like a powered 'bazooka' tube. They're certainly not the best sub, but they're paperweight and they sound pretty good.

Ignore the weight limit, if you don't need the space it will take up, then go for it.

i have a nice setup in my trunk. looks good, and there is no way that the handling charateristics for regular street driving are affected. Maybe if it were a dedicated track car it would matter.

I've done trips with my old man, and the two of us together are well over 400lbs.

I had a fairly complex system in my last car (probably 300+lbs throughout the car), when I removed everything but the deadener prior to selling the car, my butt dyno registered an improvement in acceleration.

My point is that you are still adding roughly 2% more weight to the car. That's probably not a huge deal but it's interesting to note how much money people will spend to get 2% more power or shave a little weight off this car. You just have to decide what value you place on that small incremental decrease in performance. You could probably figure out some creative ways to get bass with a lot less weight.

Semi-related. I've lost about 30 lbs in the last few months, someone should slap a Type R sticker on my ass because I definitely move faster now....er, I take it back, the sticker just adds HP, hmmm.

I'm using an 8 inch bazooka tube right now and it sounds great. The only thing I would trade it for is a fiberglass box to fit in the tool area with a 10 inch. I'm not sure what you're planning to put in but anything that's 24 inches long is probably a huge overkill for this car. It takes a lot less power to feel bass in this car than it would in a 4 door.

Go for a light aftermarket exhaust, and a simple 12" sub and amp in the trunk. Shouldn't be too much of a difference in the end in terms of original weight.

I removed the mini-spare to make room for an amp rack there. That's one way to reduce the impact on handling (added a tiny 12V air pump and sticky string tire repair kit).
