Honda Corporate is the cage to rattle at 800-999-1009. As far as my top replacement, I only needed the vinyl canvas replaced.

There is a fix for the bar not retracting, which is the modifry strap replacement.

Goodluck in your battle

This may be a dumb question, but has anyone tried to get their top replaced under this program after patching all the holes in their top with vinyl and Goop?

Unfortunately the DSM just looked at our car and said Honda wouldn't pay a thing, even though the dealership showed him the cause of the problem (bar failing to go back).

I think Honda is realizing how much of a problem this has become for everyone and it trying to wash their hands of it due to cost involved in continually fixing people's tops.

For me personally, this is going to be a long and unfortunately bitter battle, as I'm not done yet. It's all especially disappointing because I have never raced my car, I keep it serviced exclusively by Honda, it's obvious I care for the car and did nothing wrong to cause this. I really don't get it.

Does anyone know who's attention to get at Honda America Corporate office?

I would talk to the district manager first and then move my way up the chain of command if I were you. I'm only getting mine repaired b/c its still under warranty...I originally thought it was out but I got a call from American Honda wednesday asking about warranty renewal. The top is an issue and it should definitely be a recall or tsb.

FYI guys, this same exact problem happened to me this past week.

The good news is that a TSB has been formally issued by Honda with this same exact problem...in fact, apparently it just came out yesterday (tearing on the convertible top caused by driver side hinge, and also tearing on the passenger side rear top).

The bad news is that it apparently only applies to MY05 - MY07's. (I have a 2005)

The TSB is 09-033 (unless the customer service rep gave me the wrong one).

Nice to see Honda wised up and acknowledged the flaw in their design.

slim...

this is great news. i just saw the other thread discussing the TSB so i will be giving hondacare a call this weekend

only issue im concerned about is that i bought the car and it had the tear on the passenger side patched already. i certainly hope they dont try and deny it cause of the previous owners' attempt to fix it.

This approach to get things fixed out of warranty works. Last month I got hondacare to "100% goodwill" replace a Auto transmission on a 2001 Accord with 120k miles on it. Turns out to be a $4000 job otherwise. I also got my 01 s2k CV joints goodwilled a couple years back again through hondacare.

Make sure you approach Hondacare FIRST as the district manager really put up a fight in this latest saga.

Even if you have a early model S2k, you should still see if hondacare will goodwill your torn top or other issues that have a internet history of failure imho.

how much did you end up paying for the top replacement if they dropped 75 percent?

Other points to keep in mind:
The S2000 is Honda's FLAGSHIP car. You don't want raggetty cars driving around! It's BAD PR.

Total out of pocket for a new top w/labor & tax is $511.
few posts down the thread. Others have had their tops replaced for free...just depends on the mood of the office that day.
