Yep, the strategy works. Basically what I did and they paid for 100% of my replacement, with glass. (only real difference is that I have all my service done at the dealership so I have a "good customer" record)

This really goes a long way with American Honda I'm sure. I'm sure if I went to my dealer and told them the situation they would try to do something about it.

I enjoyed MY00 but I enjoy MY02 a lot more

Great to hear about the new top. I got rid of my car because Honda refused to do anything but patch up my top and that was just totally unacceptable. I had two holes wearing on both sides. I'm glad to hear that you got at least some "minor" justice. I still believe that Honda should just ante up and admit that the 00-02 tops sucked and replace the frame with the MY02+ frame. I didn't realize how bad the S2000's top sucked until I bought my My02 M3 Convertible. I keep forgetting it's a convertible when I drive it. And the materials are much higher quality. Honda should have made the top out of nicer mateials and made it a manual to keep costs low.
german/european convertibles usually have insulated tops. Audi and BMW tops have 3 layers - so they last, have good sound and weather insulation, and look/feel great. just FYI.

My MY02 has a rip about half an inch. Don't really know how or who done it...only thing I can think of is that I got my new battery at Sears recently and the tech dropped the battery on it.

Already shot down by DSR once. Went to different dealer and guess what...they told me a DSR is visiting them in couple of days and I'll be damned if it's not the same guy lol.

I'm not that optimistic but who knows it never huts to ask...twice.

Maybe it's time to move on to another vehicle .

They treat everyone differently. Some people get 100% of the cost taken care of, some people get 50% and others don't get shit but a patch job. Isn't that illegal to treat customers differently for the same problem. Honda isn't getting anymore of my money!

Gymniac, you are in that sad position where a decision was already made on your car. Honda has already recorded your VIN number for this problem so asking again will probably get you the same answer. Sorry to hear your car isn't tiptop.

Btw a DSR is not the one you want to bring this up with. You want to take this to Honda corporate (1800-999-1009) which has a totally different outlook on how to treat the customer base and will more often than not side with the customer.

Oh, I forgot to mention to him that I also own Harmony II ! Maybe that will convince them that I am a diehard Honda fan ?

Interesting slip of the tongue by the service manager I was talking to...

When I asked if I can get the old top back, he told me the work was being done under "warranty" so honda corp will want to inspect the bad part and he was shipping it back to them....

In some ways this resembles the "secret warranty" provision.
