Suggestions for Catching a Vandal Needed...
Hey guys -
So I've had my S for all of 10 glorious months, and as of last night, it has been egged on 4 separate occasions. Always in front of my house, sometime between 2 and 5 in the morning. Three prior 'eggings' occured on Friday nights, so I have been making arrangements as of late to make sure to park my car in the garage on weekends. Last night was the first weekday egging, and it was the worst one yet. My car has been repainted twice already, and I just shake my head when I think that I will need to have it painted yet again. I would park my car in my garage every night, but my house was built in the late 50's, a time when narrow driveways with steep inclines were the norm. My car always scrapes badly when I go up the driveway, and since it is so narrow, I cannot approach it from an angle. I am beyond frustarted at this point. My neighbor, who owns a beautiful fully loaded G35 coupe has been egged twice as well, so I know it is not someone with a vendetta against me, but probably some young punks who like to trash cars they like but cannot afford. Maybe not, but since my neighbor and I are the only ones on the street who have been hit, I can draw no other conclusion. Plenty of SUV's and econo-boxes on my street that have not been targeted. I know this because after every attack, I drive up and down my street looking for other victims.
I am at my wits-end. I would file a police report, but what can the police do? It is not a weekly or even monthly occurance. The vandals target with no particular pattern, and as soon as I let my guard down, I come out to see my car turned into what looks to be the skillet for someone's omelete.
Any suggestions? I rent my house, so re-pouring my driveway is not an option. has anyone ever changed the angle of their driveway by using 2x4's or other means?
The real issue is this: Why can't I park my own damn car in front of my own house without fear of falling victim yet again?
These guys come by fast, too - the third time it happened, my alarm went off, and I bolted outside to find no one. (Next time, I'll run out in my underwear - apparently it takes too long to throw on a pair of sweats!) This last egging hit so hard that one of the eggs shattered the paint on my rear fender in the familiar 'target' pattern, and the yoak from that egg smeared all the way to the 'S2000' logo on my front fender...
So sorry for the long post - Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. I bought a security camera last weekend, but haen't put it up yet - Not sure how well it would help at night anyway.

That sucks. I remember throwing acorns at cars as a kid - I bet we dented some. Just had no clue about the sense of violation it causes in an adult who works for a living. Someone stole wheels off a BMW in my car port last night (well I did think his having no wheel locks was kinda asking for it). Sure frickin hope my spline drives & wheel locks plus tilt sensor do the job.
So do yoiu have a sense of whether this is a drive-by , or pedestrians? Getting plate numbers on an all-night security video would be easier.
Has this happened elsewhere in the neighborhood? You'd doubt that someone who lives or works far would go out of their way to target a few cars in your neighborhood, so maybe they live / work near. Maybe you could post a reward poster, perhaps some teenagers would be inclined to rat. Or that may incite further egging (potentially a way to catch them, I'd sure as shit be watching my car the night I put up some reward posters).
I'd build some plywood gizmo, anchor it with bolts into the cement , & use the garage. Do it , you'll sleep better.

Would backing down the driveway help instead of going in head first? My driveway is very steep and I usually back it in without a problem and cut the wheel hard when pulling out so that one wheel gets on the street at a time.
My first thought is, jeez, that's what rock salt is for, but I guess that's not PC in today's society.
A more PC approach (and one that will keep you out of jail) might be to hook up a remote video and get on video the little brats doing the dirty deed. At least that way, you could hopefully identify who they are and help the police catch them.
That totally sucks, man. People who have no respect for other's property are becoming all too common.
Best of luck to ya.
