I'd love to be able to do the swap myself. I'd actually like to try out the AP2 tranny with my 4.77's but I'm sure I'd get the "YOU'RE OUT OF YOUR MIND!!!" comments

I drive mostly city. I like being able to accelerate between lights and I like being able to have the power on tap without having the engine completely screaming through the downtown core with everyone looking at me. So is the S the right car for me? Some might say no, but I still say yes
I just installed a set of 4.77 in a rear diff then popped in my car to do a revue on the AP1 engine/AP2 transmission/with 4.77 final drive setup

I will be posting in the above thread over the next few weeks about my experiences with the combo

If you have the AP2 rear diff and drive shaft then install that too. You will not have to change the rear transmission flange if you use all AP2 components. The bolts used to hold the drive shaft to the trans and rear are 8 mm AP1 and 10 mm AP2. If you mix and match you will need to change the flange out.

I have had the setup in my car for a few years and it is well worth the money, the fuel economy is enough reason for the swap.
I thought the AP1 used 6mm bolts to hold the driveshaft, which was what made it so absurd and hard to take off? It's 8mm?

I'd really like the idea of longer 5 & 6 gear. I wonder how this would work with 4.57 on mine? I like my set up, except I don't really feel comfortable doing highway cruise at such high rpm.
Only 6th gear is taller on the AP2 tranny.

AP2 Tranny compared to AP1:
Gears 1-4 = 4% shorter
Gear 5 = 1% shorter
Gear 6 = 2% taller

Does anyone one know what serial number the AP2 transmissions start with? Specifically the 05. I know AP1 (00-01) start with SCYM-1xxxxxx, AP1 (02-03) start with SCYM-2xxxxxx.

I did a search, but I couldn't find anything regarding transmissions in relation to serial numbers.

TIA

Just FYI these serial numbers on the transmission correspond with the following years.

00-01 SCYM-1xxxxxx
02-03 SCYM-2xxxxxx
04-05 SCYM-3xxxxxx

Also, I'm getting at least 20mpg (city) more with my AP2 transmission now installed. Anyone else get more miles after the swap?

I've been getting a wee bit more. I think it really depends if you're mostly on the hwy/fwy (longer 6th) or not.

I would imagine that the street driving would get LESS mileage due to the slightly shorter 1-5 gears.

I'll see what happens on my next tank of gas.

Yes! 20 miles more per tank in the city.
