It effects each gear the same, all the way from low rpm to high rpm.

Think of it this way - get rid of 6th gear and add an additional gear before before first. That's generally the effect you'll see. (In actuality, it's not that extreme - although 6th gear with a 4.77 rear end is remakably similar to 5th with the stock 4.1 rear, IIRC.)

Wait - your profile shows you have a year 2000 car? Why are you concerned with the effects on a MY04? Or, if you recently went from a MY00 to a MY04, then you already know the effect that going with shorter gearing gives you. Just take that and exagerate it, and you'll know what shorter gearing on an 04 would be like. I couldn't live with it, but that's just my personal taste.

(I also think that the only thing that'll really satisfy what you seem to be looking for is a Comptech or Vortech supercharger.)

thank you for that explination. i am surprised though that nobody with a MY04 has spoken up yet, maybe nobody has done it yet
by the way i never had a MY00, just an old typo of mine, this MY04 is my first.
of course a supercharger would be ideal, however it is not really cost effective for me as a college student.
just trying to get some input on how it would work on a MY04

so lemme get this straight.. on a 2000~2003 S2000, if you swap in Rick's 4.77 gear, you'll have greater lower end torque???

In the same way that 1st gear has more "lower end torque" than 2nd gear, yes.

Does anyone have 4.57's in their MY04+ yet? I am considering them and would like to hear real world experiences. Please chime in.
