Switching to Synthetic
This is certainly worth a google, but my understanding of the main advantages of synthetic is:
It doesn't gunk up. If you've ever seen the inside of a motor with 100K+ miles, you'll find a centimeter or more of black tar gunk. This builds up over the life of the motor, and can eventually clog up the works. If it's a car owned by someone that doesn't know about oil changes, the buildup can be incredable.
Synthetic oil doesn't do this. But to obtain this advantage, you have to be keeping the car for 100K+ miles and every oil change has to be synthetic.
So don't just run synthetic when you feel like it. It's all synthetic from now on, or don't waste your money.
Now there are other advantages. Like better low and high temp performance but for most of us in the lowerr 48 states, conventional works fine.

I like the Dino oil myself and change my oil every 2000 miles, it may be overkill but its cheap anyway so no big deal

Changing at 2k mi is doing more harm than good. Modern oils come with detergents that are designed to burn off over a period of time, and premature changing will cause these to build up and will hurt the engine.
How long should I wait to change the oil?
If you're in the USA and drive normally, Honda states 7,500 mi or 12 months, whichever comes first. Changing at 2k mi is basically changing the oil when you've used only 25% of its life - not only is it extremely wasteful of resources, its also a drain on money and time.
Even if you change your oil every 6 months/6k mi (assuming normal driving - only 75% oil life used), you're spending at a third the rate of every 2k mi - saving yourself $80 a year.
That said, I've never heard of an engine gernading because the oil was changed too frequently, but no one's posted any problems with changing every 7,500 mi either.

I change mine when the maint minder says. This ends up about Once in the colder months, and 3 times in the warmer. Don't know why, but I do drive a little harder in the summer months.
So how do I tell the maint minder that I'm using synthetic

This is based on fantasy. Go to BITOG or even under the hood here and look at actual analyses of used oil.
you could go ahead and use synthetic oil over 5000 miles. keep on doing that and come back and let me know what happens to your engine.
as far as synthetic based oil, i'm referring to the FACT that there are only few oils made in this world that has a synthetic foundation for their oil.
as far as the BITOG, I use to refer him to all of the people I know, but honestly, he has no factual database and reference source to back up his claim.
so it's like any joe (or bob) putting up bunch of pictures and telling you what it is.
if you drive this car in a "normal driving condition", please get a hybrid or something. I never drove any of my car under "normal driving conditions".
Then again, you have no idea what you're talking about.

I have run M1 and redline in every car, truck and race car I have had. My shortest interval based on blackstone analyses has been appx 7k. I ran 7-9k intervals on a 323 gtx turbo race car for 125k with no cam lobe wear...try that on dino.
Your unsubstantiated assertion about oil change intervals is simply wrong.
Virtually every major oil brand in the US has a full synthetic, I can't think of one that doesn't. Synthetic base stocks are used for everything from OTR trucks to jets for a reason.
My 2 Cents.. Switching over is more along the lines of how well you've maintained your car. If you or the last owner neglected the service care then switching could cause seals to start leaking and other issues. I'd say since the mileage is still so low you probably have nothing at all to worry about.

I have an '05 and I'm thinking about switching to synthetic so I don't have to change the oil every 3,500 miles. I remember reading some threads I found and people said that 12,000-15,000 miles was the best time to switch. Would switching around 25,000 miles be detrimental at all?
some say dino is as good as syn as long as you're doing correct intervals of change, some say syn is better, but i haven't heard of anyone saying dino is better than syn, so worse comes to worse, syn is as good as dino, if not better. it doesn't matter when you change from dino to syn, coz you're either getting something better, or the same. no way you're getting worse, right?
