Default taking car off the road

I was about to dump my s2000 because my insurance tripled. By calling around I managed to save a little on that number but I still want to take the S off the road for six months a year.

I know I have to send my plates back to the DMV when I stop the insurance. My question is how hard is it to get those plates back come June and how much does it cost?

Do you own your car free and clear? If you're still paying on it your lender will probably have a problem with you not having insurance. Are you sure you have to give up the plates? In CA I don't think you do as long as the car is registered.

Wow, that is the wierdest thing..where I'm from we own the plates..we just have to buy the stickers every year..

If you are looking to save some money on insurance, knowing that it will be parked all winter, perhaps just removing the collision part of your insurance would help.. KEEP fire and theft.

It saves me about 500 bucks over the course of the year

How old are you?
If you own it change your plan. Increase the deductible to $500.00 or more this will lower the insurance.

Who do you have insurance with?

you'll still need to insure it against fire and theft.
