Default test drive

honda of seattle called and i test drove a yellow 01 s2k today.... WOW!!!! i was a good boy and kept the revs <5k RPM. i will be placing an order in apr/may of 02. i saw the new 02 color sheet from honda. the new silver is entitled "sebring silver metallic" and looks more "silver" and less "gray" in comparison to the silverstone color, which as been dropped. the new suzuka blue looks questionable....

a couple of questions; my sales person said once an order is placed, it takes appx. 2 months before delivery. does this sound correct? i have a lease and i need to time this as best i can. your help is appreciated.

regards

I was in the same situation as you are presently. Mine was ordered 4/27 & is supposed to arrive this Thursday 7/26. I too am in a lease & had a difficult time working it out. I'm turning my Acura in upon making my last payment this Saturday. So I lose a months worth of usage for my last payment. I can deal with that. Three months from order date is about right, mine will be nearly 3 months to the day if she shows up Thursday.

----LONG WINDED!!!----

I just test drove one last wednesday as well... but I got a 7000 mile used car version so there was vtec to be had. Problem was it was 90 and humid... so acceleration was good but not stunning (I also ride 9-10 second sportbikes regually so my view of acceleration is somewhat skewed). The acceleration was pretty much what I was expecting. But as always, before buying a new car, a test drive is an absolute must because there are always those little things that you just can't get from reading magazines and newsgroups. Something that someone notices may be something that someone else didn't notice, ect...

So these are the things that I noticed...

1. It wasn't as agile as a miata. The handling precision was there, but I was hoping for more quickness. You have to steer more in this car than you do in the miata. Absolutely nothing that would keep me from buying it though...

2. It takes a LOOONG time to get to 6000rpms... Atleast it feels like it does. I own a prelude right now and always thought that running up to 5000 rpms took a lifetime (say stuck in second gear at 30 mph when you don't want to shift to first). Of course not as bad as running my YZF R6 with up to its power band with its 15,500 rpm redline...

3. It doesn't track as straight as the prelude for some odd reason... it may have been the car with 7000 miles on it with original tires, but it seemed to wander due to road imperfectinos a little. Nothing bad at all, just something you would have to get used to... the prelude seems to be just on auto pilot. Road bumps don't alter its path a bit.

4. You sit really low in the car. You can pretty much figure this out from just sitting in it, but getting out of the s2000 and into the prelude made me feel like I was sitting on top of the prelude.

5. Suspension was soft... I was expecting (and hoping) it would have been stiffer. It still handled very well, but being a pure sports car I was hoping for more dampening.

6. It was quieter than I thought it would be... Exaust had a nice rumble in low rpms, but it didn't scream up top like I was hoping it would (sportbike like). Still better than most cars...

7. The air conditioning works really well with the top down... I always thought why would you need to have the air conditioning on with the top down... and now I think.. Ahh.. thats why...

8. I can't wait to get mine. All in all, after all my little nitpicks, it's still by far the best value for a sportscar bar-none out there. Before the drive, I was hoping it had the power a Mustang Cobra and the handling of a miata. It came close... not quite as powerful as the v8 and not quite as nimble as the miata (though much more stable and precise), but it's definately a close mix!!! Now the question... try to get a 01 or wait for the 02 models!!! Or the new nissan Z??!? (ack)
