No test ride. In fact, probably like several of the early owners, I had never even seen one in the flesh. Just knew that we were made for each other (and I have never regreted it).

i test drove a black/black when they first came out. i feel bad for whoever bought that car because neither the salesman nor I had the slightest concern for the break-in period. i didn't buy then (the freaking dealer wanted $15K over MSRP).

Prices came down and I bought my MY2001 without driving it.

Haven't looked back.

It's funny, but the dealer forced me to test drive the car. When I got to the dealership, I was ready to just buy the car and leave. The salesguy forced me to go drive it first. I was just happy to get the deal I got on the car at the time.

I love threads like this one...

I got to test drive. I declined 3 times previously... afraid of getting too excited and signing before I was ready. I was first turned onto the car from the Aug/Sept issues of R&T and Car&Driver, both had excellent reviews. I was sold after I saw it for the first time on the showroom floor ($3K markup). When I test drove it was a $7.5K markup. I hit 98mph in 3rd gear and fell in love that day.

I love my stook!

Well I actually got a test drive and made an offer on the car I test drove but they sold it to someone else. I found another car down in LA (I live near San Francisco) by doing a telephone search and flew down and bought that one. I would have bought it without one though.

I had to argue for 20min before my dealer allowed me to test drive the car. But I had to give them a deposit first
and sign an agreement to buy the car contingent on the test drive. As it turned out, they had a used one with 20k miles on the lot which I demoed, so I don't understand what all the fuss was about. Problem was, as I soon as we drove off the lot it started snowing/sleeting and the roads were slippery as hell. As the car was all broken in, of course I v-teched and slid all over the place. That was fun, but not really good conditions to seriously test the car. I bought the car anyway the following weekend (new black/black), and have not regrets whatsovever!

I didn't get to test drive mine. My wife was on a rampage to buy us a 3rd car (our fun car). She came home one night advising that she almost bought an Audi TT. She showed me the brochures and I'm sorry folkes, but the TT rag top with it's top up looks goofy. The coupe looks great.

I knew that our fun car had to be a rag top. She knew I really wanted the S2K (or Boxter S, $$$$$$$$ OUCH!).

She said she was comming home to take me to dinner, pretended to get lost, pulled into the dealer, suggested we go in to see if the had an S2K on the floor.

When we walked in, all the salesmen seemed to know her. She said "Where's his car", and they said it's right out front, ready to go.

My wife...
...I think I'll keep her!

One day, back to back to back to back, I went the rounds of the Porsche dealer, the BMW dealer, the Benz dealer and the Honda dealer; got rides in everything I was interested in. The S2000 was the one that made me smile, being most consistent with my desires. Then I shopped around till I found one at the price I wanted to pay. I was not committed to the S2K until doing the comparison tests.
