Your questions came across loaded .

You asked a question that was already answered . Then the second question came across as it didn't pertain to this subject .

I'm not defensive , if you notice I only post if I have something real to contribute . I don't post opinions .

I think it is funny that people worry more about getting pulled over than there health .

While 500ppm is extreme , I am showing it is not impossible.

It wasn't meant to come across as loaded... I was just shocked that a testpipe could produce enough Carbon Monoxide in the cabin to actually cause severe physical symptoms during a long drive.

I have no doubt there could be something to what you're saying... I'd like to see results from a stock S over a range of driving conditions, then the same vehicle with a testpipe in the same conditions.

Does anyone know the usual fine for having a test pipe on the car?

It depends on who catches you as it is a State and a Federal crime. The owner of a local exhaust shop here told me that he would face a Federal fine of up to $10k and possible jail time for removing a functioning catalytic convertor from a vehicle. I don't know if that same fine applies to private owners. I imagine that the State fine is going to vary from State to State.

Not to confuse anyone but the test pipe does not produce Carbon Monoxide you engine does . The catalytic converter removes pollutants from the exhaust .

The three harmful compounds are:

* Hydrocarbons (in the form of unburned gasoline)
* Carbon monoxide (formed by the combustion of gasoline)
* Nitrogen oxides (created when the heat in the engine forces nitrogen in the air to combine with oxygen)

The test pipe removes the catalytic converter thus removing any emissions you once had .

The S is a ULEV2 compliant vehicle if none of it Emissions equipment is tampered with . ( catalytic converter , Air pump , air control valve , most engine sensors and factory ECU * Apply's to everything pre MY06 *)

When the weather gets better I can get a few people together to test .

With Cat - Top up and down
Without cat Top up and down
Car behind with and without cat

Dean, add NH to the list of hefty fines for removing the catalyst too !

That fine your talking about is for companys not for owners.

The fine you face would be from the clean air act which is up to 2000 dollars I believe. However, you must understand what the clean air act states. It basically states tampering with any part of the emission system warrants the fine. And FYI, they say the "emission system" includes intake and exhaust. So everyone running an aftermarket intake or exhaust is also breaking the clean air act as well, not just people running a testpipe.

So there wouldn't be any jail time or anything?

I mean the 5 whp is nice but it's not worth that much to me... lol. I'm going to see if I do some research and check it out before the test pipe even comes in.

no jail time AFAIK, but the possibility of a fine. However, its just as much of a possibility of getting the SAME fine for an intake as it is for catless. Since I've hardly ever heard of anyone getting a fine for an intake, I doubt the chances are very high....take it for what its worth

I couldn't really find any info on the fines for a specific state. I found that fines can go anywhere from $2000 to $10000 and imprisonment. So I really have no idea how Jersey is at all. I thought google was suppose to be good?... lol.

The California Clean Air Act applies to all states. Read about that act because thats the one you would be facing in NJ and all other states.

NJ also has a pollution fine that is like 200 dollars but again, I've never heard of anyone ever getting that ticket before.

As I've said, I've driven in front of cops and been pulled over and not one sofar *knock on wood* has said anything about catless. But its your choice not mine on whether you think the fine is worth the power. Just note that if you already have intake + exhaust of some kind, your already risking the fine...

Twiztid, you're way too defensive. I was simply asking for more information. If you're going to make a bold statement that an S2000 can produce enough Carbon Monoxide in the cabin to kill an adult within 2-3 hours, expect some follow up questions. I wasn't challenging you as much as I was asking for more imformation about your sources, because the claim seems pretty hard to believe, and your orginal post was fairly vague.
I have no cat. how come I didn't die whenI drove for 10 hours straight to Vancouver?
