tested the theory, drove in rain with top down, works
well i done it, i was driving on the freeway, the sky went grey and i said to my mate who went with me (who btw is 6'4) it looks like its gonna rain, and sure enough it started to spit a little, no biggies, didnt feel a thing.
i was doing maybe 110km, anyway it started to really piss down, i mean i had to turn the wipers to on, not just intermittent, anyway, no rain got in the cabin, however there was some backwash and seepage over the wind shield frame. the wind deflector was very wet from the backwah and i didnt look at the roof well, but was pretty sure it was wet.
the moral is, as long as ur going at speed, u dont need to close the lid. i got a lot of weird looks from other cars though.

I've driven with my top down
several times in the rain (as long as it's not in traffic) and it didn't get into the car or on me! I just ignore the looks--plus driving too fast and too happy to notice! It's all a blur! I always wondered if anyone else was crazy like me and knows how to have fun in the rain!

steve_the_greek told me about this "dry but wet inside the windshield" phenomenon at the last UK meet. I must confess I've not had the nerve to try it before I put the hard top on for winter... maybe come springtime I'll have a go
hahaha, you guys are nuts. Sounds cool though, Happened to me when I was in a drive, it start to sprinkle a little, then more, I had my top down but I didn't feel a thing, so I didn't stop until I got out of the mountains.
LOL.. I do this all the time. As long as you're going fairly quickly, on a motorway, or similar, you stay bone dry. Different story of course if you have to slow down or stop. Anyone who doesn't do this is missing half the fun!
You do get some very strange looks from people who think you're getting drowned though.

Yep, the theory is good - it works, but you have to stay above about 60mph, which becomes something of a challenge in an S2000 on wet twisty UK 'A' and 'B' roads.
The other thing I have noticed is how few convertible drivers go topless when it is cold............in the UK we have had some superb bright frosty mornings recently. I drive 25 miles to work, top down, silly wooly hat on, and may well see 30 - 40 other convertibles (only very rarely other S2000's) and I have not seen 1 with its lid off...........what are these people like??????

Sorry Ian, I must be letting the side down terribly - I sit there in my suit jacket, hardtop on, very cosy
I miss being able to join in the fun though, I've set off some mornings and would have loved to put the top down

I cought this top down disease from my Daddy. When I was a little kid Dad and I went a lot a places in his '57 MGA. Not only was the top always down, he did not even have the soft top mounted in the car! Back then there were a lot fewer signal lights to worry about getting soaked at when you stopped. Top down in the rain is fun!
