Thanks, Big Ben: Here
again,
I have to say that I agree with Rick not warrantying (if that's a word), these gears. I think it's crazy to give a warranty for something you didn't produce in the first place. Unless insurance is your line of business. Does Circuit City warranty the Tivo I just bought? No, Tivo does.
But since the manufacturer of the gear is unknown, (at least unknown to me), how can it carry a warranty? Is Rick just supposed to trust the strength of the gears by looking at them?
With this being said, I am still very comfortable with the strength of the 4.44's at any rate, and even the 4.77's as long as the driver doesn't drive like his clutch foot has touretts syndrome while the revs are at 8 grand.
There is little to fear with these gears. These are the same gears that have been sold all along. Just maybe not from the same supplier. But they damn sure rolled off the same manufacturing line.
I have no problem with Rick not insuring them for $300. But I'm not buying any either. I've already hopefully found my set.

I don't think Rick is saying anything regarding the 4.77 being THAT weak. The bottom line is that every set of gears prior to the ones Rick is having custom made by Richmond have the same weakness problem, including the stock gears. So what Rick is saying is that the 4.77's are as weak as the stock gears and as prone to breaking. If you drive the car reasonably you may not have problems with the stock gears or the 4.77's. But for those that autocross, track their car, or otherwise treat the rear end rough there is definitely the potential for the gears to go. He is simply offering several levels of warranty for those who are willing to take their chances, and pricing those levels accordingly.

Now if you could just explain it to everyone else.
