Are there any Axle back exhausts?
Basically as the title says, I am looking to find out if they make any axle back exhausts for and AP1? I have searched here and don't seem to see much or any info on it. Seeing as how most dual catback exhausts hardly make any power, I was thinking of leaving the stock piping but putting higher flowing dual mufflers on my car. Would help with sound, possibly a little bit of power as well and looks. Anyone have any suggestions? Just don't want to spend $700,$800 on a catback exhaust that gives me 1 hp.

The reason the exhausts all come cat-back is ease of installation. You could get a generic muffler and cut-n-clamp it on. Your best bet would be to go with a muffler shop.
BUT what you really want is a test pipe. It's a cheap exhaust mod that shows up on the dyno. Just put the Catalytic Converter back on for any emmissions inspections.

The test pipe is the only exhaust mod that will give you dyno proven gains for under $700/$800. Though short of that you're looking at replacing header on back with a 70mm single for a couple few thousand, and get just a little more top end hp.
As far as sound do some searching, it does make it a little louder, but searching will get the details.

No axle backs are made because the stock exhaust is one piece from cat back, meaning you'd have to cut your stock exhaust and clamp as mentioned above. If you don't like the smell, try getting a Berk high-flow cat. They flow quite a bit better then the stock cat and will improve the sound some, otherwise you're going to be looking at good money anyway.
Even if you were to go with a custom axle back, it would still most likely cost $300+ as good quality mufflers usually cost $150+ each anyway. Try checking out the For Sale forum and see what deals there are on something like a Borla, Fujitsu or HKS exhaust. They sound like what you probably want.
Or if you don't mind a slightly ghetto option, cut off your stock mufflers. Believe it or not it actually sounds pretty nice, just louder than stock. I only know this because I had one of my mufflers fall off from salt corrosion, but was rather pleased with the sound while I waited to pick up my borla.

Ok thanks guys. I guess I'll wait it out for now. If the test pipe doesn't really give big gains, I think I might pass on that. If it smells anywhere as bad as my Eclipse then I am not down with it. Would think my eclipse is worse though since I have a 3" turbo back exhaust.
