Default thinking about a '00 s2000

Hi-

Thanks in advance to anyone who might be kind enough to reply.

I'm thinking about buying a used 2000 s2000. Other than the usual things one examines when buying a used car, is there anything specific to that particular year that I should look out for?

Other than horsepower, have there been any improvements that might make a later model more desirable?

How's the stereo? Audible at speed?

Thanks,

Ted Rowden

Great buy, I'm sure. . .

The only significant difference will be the rear glass window. Currently, on the S2000 you are considering, the rear window will be plastic. . .there are pros and cons and coming from someone who used to own a '00 and now an '02, the rear glass is nice but not a huge deal!

The S2000 is one of the sweetest cars around! What accessories are on the S2000 you are considering?

Stereo will be alright. I lived with mine fr about 10k miles before changing speakers and adding an amp. Then, it was simply bliss!

If the price is right, you'll have yourself a great ride! Bedford, Virginia. . .hmmm. . .you ever eat at Frank's Pizza? My wife's uncle owns a few pizzerias out in Virginia! Great place. . .great roads for the S2000!

I've got a year 2000 model and it's still charging strong at 30k miles. Just use common sense and look for anything abnormal. 2000 models are probably great steals at the price they are going for nowadays. Get one!

On the 2000 S2000 there was a seat belt recall/upgrade which should be done IMO because it is a safety item. Look for 2 "punch" marks on the driver's side data plate, this is how they "record" the work was done (aside from the maint. papers).

Other TSB's should be looked into (have they been done, or do they NEED to be done). I recomend that you read the TSB's, see the link above, then drive the car and look for any of the symptoms that would require the TSB work.

The 2000 model is running short on original warranty time (3 years), so you may want to consider the extended warranty as insurance. Do a search on this board for rate and companies, last I looked 7 years extended cost around $700US.

I have a 2000 model and love it. The speakers suck, but with top down driving at S2000 speeds they all do.

Good Luck,

I've got a year 2000 model too. I bought it used with 30K on it about three months ago. No complaints as of today. The car makes a lot of weird little sounds that I wasn't used to in my old Civic, but after doing a lot of reading in these forums has let me know that most are normal. That's the only thing that I can remember being worried about.

Oh and I paid 28,000 for my car and it was already SC'd with Nuespeed exhaust. Just to give you some ammo at the dealer.

You should be aware that there has been no change in horsepower from 2000 to 2002. The items that have changed/improved have been mentioned in previous responses.

For the few thousand dollar difference between a used '00 and a new '02, I'd wait a while and get the '02. That way, you're the total master of your fate, instead of inheriting someone else's grief. You'll know exactly what you're buying.
