Default Thinking about buying an s2000

I need advice.... I'v been looking into buying a two seater car for a while now and I started out by looking into the 350z, but iv always loved the s2000, but i considered the 350z because of the hardtop and there isn't much thief involved, mind you i live in Miami... but now i'm back to considering an s2000.. I am going to see one on saturday but my worry that i cannot take off my head is the chances of someone slashing my roof.. to attempt to steal something... thats pretty much the only thing im worried about because im welding those seats down if i have too. any advice..

What are the chances of someone attempting to cut your roof,.. lets say you live in a huge gated house with the car next to a bedroom window with a clifford G5....

You're definitely right car theft and seats being stolen. A guy recently had his S2000 stolen in Miami with a hard top, so be cautious of where you park it.

Some say to invest in seat locks, I say don't. If you do, then that thief may potentially trash your whole interior sending you into a bigger repair bill. Invest in a lo jack system, removable aftermarket steering wheel, and hope for the best. I've driven a 350Z, they're great cars, but the S2000 takes the cake in all categories.

Correction. It was actually stolen from Deltona, FL. Nevertheless, still watch where you park it. Yeah, I believe the S2000 made it to the top 10 stolen car in United States. Even with an alarm, a thief that is familiar with the alarm can disable it in minutes. You have to always remember that no matter how many anti theft provisions you take, if a thief wants your car bad enough, they will get it.

here's the thread to that car being stolen:

Invest in a Lojack system. It is basically a device installed on your car in a discreet location that can be tracked by your local police department if they support it, and can find your car's location in hours.

Watch where you park, full coverage insurance, and hope for the best.

If you can't stop worrying over it then consider a hard top or an entirely different car. Though keep in mind that a hardtop or solid roof is no guarantee either. Thieves around here just break windows.

There are no guarantees in life. You might be fine, you might not be. Gates and an alarm may help to mitigate the possibility but, again, they're not a guarantee. I don't have gates or an alarm and I don't worry about it. I have full insurance and that's what it's for.

You could just get seat locks.

Parroted by those who think they're expert criminal profilers and not supported by history (i.e. it's rare). Reupholstering is definitely cheaper than replacing seats. Good luck driving your car without seats whereas you'll be just fine driving with slashed seats.

Not having seat locks doesn't guarantee that your interior won't be trashed or completely gutted. Search around and read rather than randomly speculate.

It's a lot less than a car.

truee, i wont be able to get low jack for a while but im putting on a G5 the first day.. and ill throw in a club also. ill probly it have it in a garage anyways so whatever... the only reason they steal seats are mostly to put them in the old civics... so when this phase passes im sure it'll be less likely for them to be stolen.

Garage, seat locks, hardtop w/ locks, quick release, alarm. You should be fine.

I have a hardtop with locks and I park in my garage with video surveillance... I'm not too worried about my s2k being stolen from my home. However, any time I take my s2k out and park in a public place, I realize that it is only a broken window away from theft. That is why I have full coverage insurance with a low comprehensive deductible. If you want an s2k, just buy it and make sure it is insured and enjoy it. BTW, I previously had a 350z and while it was a nice car, it just didn't get my adrenaline pumping like the s2k does when I drive it.
