I can't help you with your other questions. My 01 just hit 30K last month, so filters are the only replacement parts I've had to worry about.

Compression test, and a leak down test will tell you the most about the internals. A new clutch setup using aftermarket parts (OEM. CT and ACT) is about 900. Labor is about 800. The belt should be cheap and you can install it your self.

If you've drove the car and everything seems fine, there may be no reason to replace anything. Look the car over, drive it, have a mech check it out and when your sure of what you may be getting, buy it.
Engine ,transmission, rear end are the main and the expensive components to repair/replace. I won't mention the clutch since this is a part that would normally have to be replaced eventually anyway. If the clutch feels good, should be no problem here either.
I have a '91 Celica GT with 104,000 miles on it and have yet to be concerned of anything major going bad with the car. It's needed new struts for the last two years and this will be one of my major expenses of owning this car.
Struts, tires a new clutch at 75K and break jobs are really all I can think of..
If the car your looking at has been taken care of, there may be very little to do to make it top notch.
If you like the car, get the reassurance of a good mechanic before buying.
