Thinking about getting s2k
Alot of safety measures can be taken, but if a theif really wanted to get something, they will. This is just the risk of owning this car. Best thing to do is make sure you have great insurance and always, always have full coverage. Anything that happens, your covered and no hassles. Just time consuming but it's worth it. I think that is the most important part.
I too am worried about the softtop being slashed but I don't think I can ever buy a hardtop as one of my main reason is the convertible. Living where I live, the weather is quite unpredictable, and I want the option to be able to drop the top and put it back up at any given time.

Unless you live in Florida, the chances of a breakin are pretty slim. Most (but not all) the stolen seats threads are by people from FL. You can't swing a stick on the west coast without dinging an S2000 or two, yet it's rare that the break-in threads are from there. As an S2000 owner there are other things to worry about before theft. They are:
1. Insurance. S2000s are crazy expensive to insure
2. Paint. The paint scratches and chips if looked at wrong.
3. Tickets. If you spend any time in VTEC in 3rd gear or higher, you're speeding, and VTEC is very addicting.
4. Blind spots. With the top up, you could hide a bus in the blind spots.
Get an Alarm, and park outside, within hearing distance. Anyone tries to steel my seats at 3am, is going to see the business end of my Glock.

i know exactly how you feel i just moved in to my new apt and i have to park outside in the street cuz the speed bumps are as high as curbs and thats not gonna work cuz im slammed, i live with a bunch of beaners (im mexican so i can say that!) that just stare at me cuz i have crazy hair and not the typical bowl cut messed up fades like them, and i speak english lol, not to mention that i live like 3 blocks away from a high school so yea i get alot of attention from the kids. I guess what i mean to say is if people come up to you and you know u have the coolest car in the block, or neighborhood in my case just be friendly to people and smile cuz if not and your mean to everyone then most likely when someone tries to do something to your car without you knowing, your neighbors might have your back
Just make sure you have full coverage - that's what it's for. I park on the street in a neighborhood in downtown atlanta. There's a car broken into on my street every month or so. Mine was broken into and vandalized finally after 2.5 years of ownership back in October.
Just make sure you have full coverage and enjoy the car. If you do get your seats stolen, take the insurance check and buy used seats and pocket a few grand.
