Default Thinking about getting an SC.

Has anyone installed a SuperCharger...? If so what is your thoughts?
Im thinking about installing a SuperCharger. Was it hard to tune... etc. Is it worth it or is it too destructive. I want to boost low end torque. Any other suggestions. I think most bolt on mods are minor in perfomance enhancements. THis car already has top notch parts. Technical people reply only. I dont want to hear about your friends Integra/

Thanks,
Matt

There are lots of Comptech and Vortech owners on this board. I haven't heard of any complaints.

It's not hard to tune. Infact with the two bolt on kits no tuning is required. I mucked around with a VAFC on mine but it caused more problems than it solved. Currently I'm just running it as it came from Comptech and letting the FPR do it's thing. I am about to do some mods and install an E-manage but it's not in anyway necessary.

The SC isn't destructive, abusing your car is. I expect a mild driver with an SC would have no more problems than stock, however mild drivers generally don't buy SC's. If you do 7K clutch drops you will damage your car. The SC just helps you do it quicker.

Ahhh, low end torque! Sorry, the SC is probably not for you. The SC's performance increase is very linear. The additional power/torque at low revs is minimal. It starts to work from about 3500 and come 6500 you'll be trying to remember if your life insurance is up to date.

Oh, you only want to hear from technical people. Well, forget everything I said then.

Yes, I have a Comptech unit with aftercooler and a few other minor changes to the unit. The value of the supercharger option is really dependant on what you are looking to gain out of it, as you mentioned, you're looking to boost low end torque. If that's what you're looking for then you will need to tell me what you define as "low end". For me, in this car, anything under 3500 RPM is only to be used when I'm in reverse or pulling out of grandmas driveway in 1st gear.

If you really want that 900-3499RPM power band, the S2000 may not be the vehicle for you. As an example of this, my brother was just up visiting from Texas, he's a BMW owner and had to sit through email after email of my bragging up the S2000. So, when he got here the first thing he wanted to do was drive it. The first thing he said while behind the wheel was, "seems weak down low." I told him to pull over and let me drive.

After spining the tires all the way up into 4th gear while maintaining an average RPM of 8500 he kept his mouth shut and hung onto the grab handle on the door for dear life. I turned and smiled saying, "My power band starts when your engine blows a rod."

So, as I said, it's all perception and how you define things. You say down low and to me, that means 3500-6000 RPM, anything less is non existant to me. So with my definition, yes a SC will increase your "low end" if you know how to drive it.

Was it hard to tune, not at all, that's the point of the bolt on setups that both Comptech and Vortech have come up with.

I'm not sure how technical you want us to get in reply, you didn't really ask any technical questions.

A turbo may be a better route for you but keep in mind, they are not typically a bolt on kit and require a lot of tuning. Plan to invest several thousand over the cost of the turbo kit to get it right. Just ask Wesmaster.

I run the vortech it's been trouble free. Their kit works well...If you really want to improve your lower end...change your differential gears first that will help a lot If you SC change your clutch.

I have the same set up as fltsfshr - Vortech with gears. Bolted it on, never tuned, car has been running great.
