Default Thinking about an S2000...

Hello all -

I'm thinking about purchasing a car in the next few months, and I wanted to get everyone input on the S2000. Here's a bit of info. about myself.

I'm 24, and married. No kids for at least 5 years. I've never driven the S2000, only sat in it. I've called about insurance, it's no problem.

My concerns are... Can the car be driven in the snow? I live in the Chicago area. Enough said... Can the I get somekind of all-season tires???

Can you fit a bag of golf clubs in the trunk?

Is the car worth the pricetag? I'm considering getting a used one, possibly a 2000 model year. Any comments on that particular year?

Basically, I'm all over the place in search for my car. I've driven a BMW 325ci, to an Accord, to a Prelude, to an Audi TT. A backseat isn't really necessary for me, right now...

Any comments would be appriciated...

The S2000 is an amazing car to own and drive and since you aren't planning kids anytime soon, this would be the time to try it out.

According to some snowbound folks, the car is fine with winter tires like Blizzaks and such, but you would likely need to have an extra set to switch over to for winter. the stock tires are NOT good for snow at all.

One set of clubs fit, and it you are willing to take clubs out almost two sets fit.

The MY2000 S2000 is fine. It had a few quirks that Honda has taken care of for the most part. Mine has been great and is the most amazing car I've ever owned and driven. The price of a used one should be in the high 20k's now but be selective about who you buy from as the initial breakin period of the car is key.

Good luck, and home you join our S2000 family soon!

You might want to do a search using "snow". There have been lots of threads on this. But just a recap:
1. Yes, it can be driven in snow. My first winter came when the car was on week old. You must get snow tires. I recommend Bridgestone Blizzaks as these have proven to be the top of the snow tire food chain. I also have a second set of aftermarket wheels so I can change them at will. The stock tires simply get too hard to even drive on bare pavement in the extreme cold.
2. I don't golf but yes you can fit one full bag of clubs and even 2 if they're not complete sets. This may be hampered if you get the CD changer that mounts in the trunk.
3. As far as sports cars go, this is the best bang for the buck when you compare to other cars like it. However, the price can go up real fast if you start to mod it. If you get a used one, just make sure you have it mechanically checked over. If you read this forum in depth you'll see there have been some problems that have required "fixes" through Tech Service Bulletins. These are NOT recalls as such but more like Honda good will fixes. Run the VIN to see if any have been done on the car and see if the warrantee is still valid and if it can be extended.
4. As for the NO kids for at least 5 years .......... nature can sometimes fool with you. What kind of precautions do...........never mind, just kidding!

The S2000 is a cutting edge sports car. You'll find it not as plush as the BMW or Accord that you've been driving. You almost have to "wear" this car. Have fun with your "hunt".

If I live in a place that snows, I will buy Subaru Impreza WRX instead of S2000. If you still want to drive S2000 in snow, maybe you need to get a $3000 hardtop, too. Another solution is move to CA, FL or TX. Then you can enjoy S2000 to its fullest extent!!!
