Just so you all know I am not totally crazy! I did recently after 10 years put in the Modifry straps. This is a Robbins top installed somewhere in the 2010 era. Original soft top lasted 10 years. This one is lasting a lot longer. If I can get the word out enough that I install tops and do them on a regular basis I will definitely be upgrading myself one winter to a Robbins cloth top! For now she is good. Getting a color change as we speak.(wrapping her)
This is an '00 to GLASS conversion so I have a strap between the 2nd and 3rd bars that others don't which is now accomplished with that cool spring thing.
No easy way I can determine with the roof fabric in place.
Pretty much a braille job. I recall I disconnected one spring several months ago (for some reason) and it took me quite a while to get it back on. I recall the front and cover need to be hooked first and then the spring pulled out to attach the rear. Ya need to force the bar forward so the spring isn't in tension like it is in the lower photo in Post #3 (above) Here's another photo of the spring placement before the fabric was installed. Note the spring is not under much tension as the bar is forward.
Folks who install roofs (like @2poor2mod ) may have constructive suggestions. They must have run across this problem before.
Please keep us informed of the solution.

Looks like I'm a few years late to the party, but my MY01 has had the exact same issue since I had the old OEM plastic-windowed top replaced with a Robbins glass-windowed top- my installer (reportedly) forgot to install the springs. It's been driving me crazy since I had the top installed in November. The top fits perfectly when in the up position, but in order to put the top down I have to pull up on the third bar to prevent it from damaging the glass window. The straps applying tension rearwards on the third bar appear to be installed correctly, just not the springs. I ordered some to hopefully solve the issue.
Where does the bottom of the spring attach to? It would seem it just gets hooked around the third bar, but it's a little difficult to tell in the pictures.
