For those of you who deal on line.
Be careful out there. There are new scams around.
The last part of the article deals with auction scams using bogus cashiers checks.

Actually had someone email me over the weekend doing a version of this....
Wanted to send me a check from a client of his who owed him some money, and have me send the rest to him and he would arrange for transport of said items to south africa....
needless to say, it sounded too complex for me... (being simple minded)
when i called BS and told him to have his client buy the stuff from me, and to send to him with the remainder of his money he ceased doing business with me.
Myk

Even if you meet the person to trade goods for the money....if it is a cashiers check tell them that they must come to the bank to cash it with you. I've had two friends burned on fake cashiers checks. Customer long gone with the product....ouch! I like paypal.....some hate it but it works for me. Escrow for big purchases!

more warnings watch out for cashiers/checks or even real checks.
a lot of banks will front cashiers checks with money from your own account. so the bank will use your money to guarantee the cashiers check. make sure the check is actually processed by the bank (accepted or denied) before releasing any merchandise!
also watch out for the fake paypal lookalike sites! they look like escrow sites but are actually fake storefronts to steal your CC number! some even copy the paypal site but hosted at a fake webaddress!
