I've seen my share of blown engines, done some building and stuff, not with honda's but with american cars, and quite frankly and engine is an engine. I dont see how this should have blown a connecting rod unless you somehow got water into the oil. Something isn't adding up here, did you drive it real hard during this time or something? Driving through curb deep water wont cause you to throw a rod.

I would see about getting the insurance company to pro-rate a stroker kit. Just have them pay out what they would have paid if you were to just get it fixed, then with that $ get the kit and have it installed. Cant be all that much more $.

Always try to look onthe brighter side of things....

no the water was a little bit under my doors and there wasnt really any water in my intake box. the mechanic that looked at our car is a trustworthy guy. weve been going to him for everything for the past 6 years. hes given us some free work every now and then so i dont doubt what he has to say. also what i think might have happened was the water got into the oil pan somehow and got into the engine. or through my exhaust. but anyway the insurance people are prolly going to look at it tomorrow and tell me what theyre gonna do. it should be covered fully. ill keep yall updated
I can't help but agree with 03_AP1. To hydro the engine, you'd almost have to get the water on top of the pistons. That's usually through the intake. Yet you say there wasn't any significant water in the intake box?

This just doesn't sound right. With water not even up to the doors (close maybe but not quite there), I don't see how it could have gotten into the oil pan. The area I live in is also prone to temporary street flooding during hard thunderstorms. I've had my S2000 in water that was basically up to the belly pan (which isn't much less than what you describe) and didn't have any problems.

What color was the oil? If it had water in it, it would be a light chocolate color, like coffee with lots of creamer in it.

I'm not saying your mechanic is wrong, I haven't seen your car. It's just that, from your description, some things don't seem to add up.

Either way, best of luck getting your baby back up and running.

Hydrolock can bend or snap a rod. Go with the bad rod guys and give the story a chance to unfold.

I have a 2004 AP2 motor with around 8 miles on it. I bought it from the Hard Top guy about 8 months ago and it's sitting at Ganley Honda. Get in touch with me and we can possibly work something out. I wasn't really considering getting rid of it (saving it for a project after I get back from the Middle East in a couple years), but I'm always willing to help someone out. Let me know if you're interested.

I believe it. The same thing happened to me 3 years ago. A freak torrential downpour left me surrounded on all sides by water and it was only getting worse. What looked like a deep puddle hydrolocked my motor. This car is so high compression that even an ounce of water can break it. I snapped #4 connecting rod in half and it punched 2 holes in the block and it never made a sound. I saw 20 -30 cars plough right through w/o a problem and the water only went half way up the wheel. Well ....enough splashed up into the stock intake and got sucked in. It was dumb and totally my fault but we all can have errors in judgement from time to time . Luckily my insurance covered it. It took Honda a long time to get the engine almost right again and I finally had to take it to a private mechanic to fix Honda's sorry excuse for a valve adjustment. good luck

Damn Deja Vu. The exact same thing happend to me hygiene boy. Down on S. Dale Mabry in one of our famous FL flash storms. And, just like you said, the water was deep but not THAT deep. It doesn't take much at all w/ these engines.

I'm amazed how many people think water in the engine can't throw a rod. Do you even understand what happens when water gets into the engine, or are you just making things up as you go? sheesh!! I hope xviper doesn't read this thread.

5K for a bottom end??? That is a lot of labor charging. You can get a new motor all the way back to the diff for that much with some looking around

Honestly thats what usually happens here. Can we please stop posting miss information. And Xviper can hook you up with a custom water shield for everyone else that has cold airs that is scared of hydro locking.
