I just got back from getting a new set of rears for my car. I was basically on slicks after this track day.

Thunderhill is a blast! I really like the track. It's challenging and has so much variety in terms of type of turns, elevation changes, straights, etc. The front straight saw the S2K's going about 110. I think Krazik got to 114. The fastest I have ever heard of was 140 in a way modified race car. Stock cars that reach 140 on the straights don't seem to make it around turn one. There's two stories of Porsches (996) that reached 140 and missed the turn. Last year one rolled and went up in flames. This year the car spun off the track, but the cats caught the grass on fire. This is why the hillside was black. The track guys hate this by the way.

The S2K really handles remarkably well on the track. As Dave mentioned, I went into a slide and overcorrected, but the car was absolutely controllable. What he didn't say was that my overcorrection caused it to slide the other way and then I did it again. That slide saw my rear end dancing side to side three times while travelling at 70 or so mph! I managed to get the car straight again and then continued on. It was cool.

Also, on the turns I was tagging a black Porsche 930 racecar. I had no trouble staying with him in the twisties. On the straights....there was no contest. He would always pull away. I later found out that he was packing 600hp.

All in all, an incredible track day. Thunderhill has a website at www.thunderhill.com. There's also a turn by turn "tour" of the track. Check it out!

By the way, there were 3 F355's on the track. A yellow targa, a green cabriolet, and that blue Ferrari challenge car. There was also a 308GTS and a 360 Modena. The Modena is remarkably quiet.

Also interesting items to note was that there was a race prepped Mazda RX-7 that had 180hp. This car, the "Ratmobile" sponsored in part by Rational Software, would consistently whoop the Ferraris. It was fun to watch. I think this was a function of the driver though.

There was also a Lotus Europa that was way fast. In the pictures you'll recognize it by the yellow flames in front. The car is red.

The two casualties of the day were a Mazda RX-7 which blew up his motor and a 300ZX. The "Z" car's front left wheel hub broke. It was weird to watch the cloud of dust emanating from the car as it's wheel rolled down a hill. Quite a spectacle.

Other cars of note were a Mercedes E55, a group of pristine Datsun 240Z's, Ford Fiesta!, Honda Civic, Pontiac Grand Am (rental car?), Corvette Z06, and the S-Car-Go Porsches. These were all entertaining to watch.

Class FA
