Default Tires for SC setup: Recommendations?

I am considering getting a Comptech supercharger sometime in the future. I need new wheels now. I am thinking that the stock tire and wheel package will not handle the additional horse power (after spinning it out stock). Can anyone who has a SC setup please provide recommendations for how much tread I need on the ground and how to attain it. Tire manufacturer and brands too.

You're not going to get much stickier than the stock S02 without going to a semi-slick tire, along the lines of a Kumho Ecsta V700.

For what it's worth, most of the turbo and SC owners I know run either stock S02s or same-width S03PPs.

I was in the same place you were. I needed new tires for my rear 18"s and new my supercharger was on the way. I went w/ pirreli p-zero rosso 245/35/18's. I didn't swap the front ones out so they still have the tires I originally put on it (pirreli supersport 7000 225/40/18). I know this is not really the info you are looking for since you have stock wheels still, but I just thought I would post what I did.

P.S. Pirreli's are great

I would stick with the stock tires. From what I hear, nothing but an r-compound seems to grip any better. The problem with the race tires is that after they heat cycle a few times they loose their grip regardless of the tread depth.

I have a Vortech SC and I'd recommend Toyo RA-1s on stock rims. RA-1s are hugely better than the SO2s. I haven't noticed much grip loss even after a year of use and 5000 miles (though they don't have enough tread depth for driving in the rain now). Non racing tires on bigger rims will generally make you slower and won't give better grip.

I drove a Vorteched S2000 With Toyo T1-S tires on 18's. The T1-S tires are lighter than their competition. Gave the car a light feel and they are good in foul weather.

My personal favorite tire for the S is the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup. They grip and heat-cycle well. They also will last almost as long as the S-02's.
