Hi

my car has 7600 miles ... my warranty has 3 years of free oil changes... is it better to take it to the dealer for a oil and filter change(Honda OIL) or take it to other place because other oil will do better for my car??

Thanks

Do it yourself. You will KNOW it's done right or WRONG

I would have the Honda dealer do it for you. My local dealer doesn't use Honda oil, they use Castrol. In fact, Iam not sure Honda makes an engine oil. If you want to use a different brand of oil, just buy it at your local store and have the dealer put it in for you. This way, you only pay for the oil. If you take it to another shop just to use a different brand oil, you will have to pay for the oil and labor. Or, you could just do it yourself. I may be sick and I know Iam not the only one, but I enjoy changing my cars oil.

I have seen the following mentioned several times in "Under the Hood."

Make sure the dealer uses 10w-30 weight oil. Some of the dealers think that all honda cars now use 5w-30. It is very important to use the correct oil, make absoulte sure they are using the right kind. For the most part, oil is oil. The "Honda Oil" is really a Mobil product. Many here use Castrol GTX 10w-30 in their cars, there is a case of it in my trunck right now.

I only say I have seen it mentioned for two reasons:

1. I have no intention of taking the car to the dealer for any service.
2. The number if times I have seen it mentioned (in the month I have owned the car) is pretty scary.

Are you sure you want to take it to your dealer for anything, even if it's free?
Here is only one example to make you think:
https://www.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.php?...&threadid=89743

There are many, many more examples in threads posted on this forum that I have not had the time to bookmark. Lots of stories of loose or missing oil fill caps, wrong oil, not enough oil, too much oil, loose fill plug, rotating the tires when it was in for an oil change, washing the car and scratching the crap out of it while it was in for service, cars being taken for joy rides and abused. The list is endless.

Of course, if you are allowed to watch the whole time, then do it but still check their work afterwards.
