Update: Gwinnett called me Friday night and said my engine was back together and when could I come to pick it up. AMH did warranty the engine. I flew to Georgia Sunday morning and drove it back. It feels good to be driving it again. It even shifts into reverse better than before! Thanks for all your advice and support

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

I am very glad to hear that AHM came through again. So far they have been great with getting the cars fixed and back on the road. Of course it is even better and comforting to all to know that AHM is, as they have always, standing behind their products.

Good luck and safe driving.

Glad to hear about the fix. I only wish Honda would be a little more forthcoming with the cause of these failures. I think that after a $32,000 to $40,000 investment they owe us an explanation. Is it actually something preventable? or will it be something like the snap ring problems of the early NSXs where they sweep it under the rug until warranties start to expire. I've got close the 18000 miles on my car with few problems but I do not like the idea that I may be driving a time bomb.

Woodwork?

Great news that AHM is covering the engine. But I have a question for you experts.

I thought most of the piston/ring lubrication came from "splash" in the oil pan, and that was why the oil level was critical (to a point). Are the pistons/rings lubricated with pressurized oil in this engine?

I switched to Synthetic immediately after the break-in period. Stopped my oil loss in it's tracks. Now I may drop 1/4 quart per change period, that's it. Some folks gave me crap, but it works and saves the engine.

Glad to hear it worked out for you. Since Barry says we got 100% happy (we know of) customers who experienced likewise, that's good news too. I'd heard about the #4 problem before buying mine and I still have no regrets - it's a great car.
