Default TODA headers

Hi Yall,
How are TODA headers compared to Comptech? Which is better if you have a Vortech S/C?

Unless you can find someone who has a Vortech S/C and has tried both headers and has a dyno of both, you are only soliciting speculation. I have a Vortech and the Toda and to tell you the truth, I can only give my "butt dyno". It didn't really seem to make any difference at all. I also have a Fujitsubo cat back exhaust and I've also ran the car with the Toda, the Fuji and a test pipe. I cannot say that any combination of this made a lot of difference to me (by butt dyno at least).
Furthermore, the Toda is one of the most expensive headers for the S2000 on the market today. Their customer service and warranty is NON-EXISTENT! Several Toda header owners to date have reported cracked and broken brackets. Neither Toda nor the distributors have stepped up to make things right. As Toda customers, we get completely ignored after the sale.
At least with Comtech, their customer service and after the sale warranty is well known. However, I doubt the Comptech header will stun you with its performance either. All you're doing is removing some weight and making a slightly different sound.

Very good point.

Thanks for the input. That's actually very helpful. Let me ask you this, since you have a vortech s/c as well, did you ever have a weird buzzing sound coming from the back of the car(i think since that's where it was loudest). It almost sounds like a muffled vacuum cleaner. This only happened in the afternoon to evening. never in the morning. I thought it was the fuel pump but I'm not really sure. This started at 5000 miles since the S/C was installed.

I'm going to guess this is the sound of the fuel pump. Even a stock fuel pump will do this from time to time. There is no rhyme or reason to when or where it does this. The high output fuel pump that comes with a supercharger kit is even louder. It's like the distant whine of a jet engine and you hear it behind your head. It doesn't seem to matter if the fuel tank is full or near empty. It just does it whenever it feels like it. It's nothing to worry about.
To confirm it's the fuel pump, I would suggest that the next time you hear it, pull over to a safe place and while it's still doing it, open up the trunk and stick your head in there. You should hear it really clearly from there or from the side of the car by the wheel well.

That's exactly where the sound is coming from. I tracked it down to the wheel well and trunk. Cool Thanks.

Sorry for the bad scan, but here are my results with a Comptech SC.

First dyno right after installation (mods; stock Comptech with AC, modified stock exhaust)

277.33 whp / 182.40 wtq

Second dyno, new mods: test pipe, AFE filter, KrankVents. Results indicate some gains mid-range, and more top end.

285.45 whp / 185.90 wtq

Last dyno, new mods: ACT PP, Toda FW, Exedy Disk, Comptech Header. Results show a major increase through all the rpm ranges. Quite a bit from 4400 rpm to 5800 rpm, large even gain until redline.

305.54 whp / 200 wtq (said 214, but that was a blip)
* you can see that the SAE CF is at .97, which if you set to CF = 1.00, outcome would be 314.70 whp and 206 wtq.

Only issue I am concerned about is that my car has leaned out with the increase of air flow...went from 12.5 vtec - 12.2 redline (first install) to 13.5 (surge at vtec) - 13/13.3ish at redline.

I try to dyno my car after each major modification installation. I'm sure it's a multiplicative effect with a lightened flywheel AND Comptech header that netted me such great gains. For the AP2, Comptech showed a marked increased in the power output with the installation of an aftermarket PP. Comptech stated that they "gained" (i.e., regained lost power) ~ 20whp. They noted that the stock clutch was not holding the extra tq. This was on a 2005 with less than 6k on it.

It would have been interesting to see just how much of the difference was a result of the new ACT PP. You may have always had the power there but was unable to put it to the dyno.

I can always reinstall the stock header, but that'd be too much of a hassle.

He stated that they've got a conservative dyno, compared to Comptech's. I find this interesting since Comptech's Dyno Dynamics is a load bearing dyno.
Yeah, for sure it's a lot of hassle just to be able to post it up here. You've done enough already. I just find it astonishing that a header would bump up the HP another 20. When I put my Toda on, I think I would have felt 20 whp. And it has been posted that the Toda gave a pretty gain on a NA car, but even that post was laced with some other inconsistencies in terms of other mods done at the same time.
I firmly believe my problem is the fact that my clutch is not holding when trying to push the car hard. I think when I get my ACT clutch one day, I'll really feel a difference.

You might find it interesting that when I was at Comptech, they seemed to indicate that theirs was conservative compared to other dynos. Go figure.
