Too many S2000's?
It seems like the exculsivity of owning this car has diminshed. But not in a good way. When I bought my S(last year), they were very rare,a dn the people who I saw owned them were all car and track enthusiasts. But it seems like the more time passes, more and more of these puppies are showing up on the road, and not really to the crowd this car was aimed for.
I live in a small town (about 1K people) and in the last month alone, I have seen maybe 4 or 5 other S2000's that I had never seen before in the last month or two. This isnt counting the 3 or 4 in my area I lready know and hang out with.
More people having the same car as me doesnt bother me so much, its just the type of people with them. For example, when I was at the Honda dealership getting my oil changed, the Tech, who is my friend pointed out a suzuka Blue 03 to me "Yeah that guy just bought his, he was cruising in 5th and shifted down to 2nd bent all of his valves, and pretty much tore up everything"
Today I saw that same car, guess who was driving? A 16 year old with his hat turned backwards trying to stare me down. Seems that most peope buying s2000's these days fall into two categories, F&F wannabe's and old people who want nothing to do with the pride of ownership. I have passed some of these new s2000's in my neighborhood and gave a nice friendly wave, and all I've gotten in return was an icy glare.
whatever happened to car community? Almost everytime I see another S I try to find the woner and talk to him, and maybe see if he is interested in going to some of the local S2000 meets or track events. I have yet to have anyone do the same to me.
I dunno, maybe I have a different perception of the way owning a high performance, low volume car should be, but the gamut of rude and ricer owners is bothering me. Is this a typical problem when resale value is low? I never remember seeing this kinda stuff happen to vette guys.(who arent really as close knit I suppose)

I've noticed the same thing, but not to the extreme yet. I just met up with a guy the other day though, and he's wanting to get involved a little with some group drives and whatnot. I have had quite a few other S drivers wave back. I also get a lot of waves back from Bimmer owners. Z3's, E36 M3's, and yesterday a guy in a sweet looking older 325i convertible. I don't think that resale value will affect it as much as people think. It will always be an enthusiasts car.
Most of these "wavers" are usually very friendly and eager to go do some driving when I meet up w/ them too.

I agree with a lot of what you said jackalope, I run across a few S2000's in my town but I hardly get any sort of greeting. Honda offered good lease rates on the S recently so I'm sure a lot of people just looking for a "cool little sports car" took advantage of it.

Yeah, seeing stuff like that really cheapens the experience... sorry you ran into some immature people that do not deserve this car.
I for one will not be that way when I pick mine up early next year. I love this car, and I have been dreaming about it for quite some time. They are so fun...

Well, the way I see it, you can't expect anyone to wave at you just because you think they should. To some people--- it's just a car.

part of my problem I suppose, is that I want other people to share the same experience I have had, of buying this great car, and meeting more great people who own it and who introduce me to more great experiences all while sharing a love for a great time and car. for example, i was never really into car clubs or anything, but once I bought the S, I started hanging out here. I met Coop and Joe_s2k (former prez's of houstooks) and several people like me, who had never really had any kind of track experience or even such great comradere with fellow car enthusiasts. I met several great friends through this car.
I suppose its just wishful thinking to hope that others could have the same kind of experience just from owning a car, but dammit I'm trying to make this vision come true

btw, at 20 (21 on monday, whoop!) years old, I dont think I intended this for the vintage club (whom I have absolute respect for) but more for the entire S2ki community, maybe so I could have a glimmer of hope that I'm the only one with this complaint.
anyway happy driving
