Too Many S2000s!
haha. I've been looking for s2000s on the road for about a year and a half, owned one for about a year and STILL have seen less than 10 on the road. I saw two in one day once, I thought that was pretty crazy.
There must some doubt about the F-type being built. This just showed up on one of the one line auto mag's:
No F-Type???
I am confused. How much can an F type cost to build ?
A simple body, use a hopped-up Duratec, like the one in the X type, make sure it is faster that a Boxster S and can run with or near a Corvette. Get the competent chassis tuners in the organization to have a go at it.
Let the F cost 30-35k, give it 300 honest HP in a light body, and Jaguar will have something more than victories in the 50's and 60's to talk about.
Sports Cars don't make sense for anyone but Porsche to build, but even if they just break even, you NEED that halo effect. A brand like Jaguar has skated too long on the classic E type-it's 2002 and even Korea makes a decent car.

Here in the suburbs of Detroit Michigan, I have only seen two other S2000's THIS YEAR! People always look at my car like "WTF is THAT?". There are not many around.
Glad I don't work for a union controlled company......my car would likely get vandalized if I drove it to work.
I find that so sad considering that so many 'American' cars are made overseas, and many of the so-called Japanese cars (aka Honda) are made right here in Ohio!!!!! A lot of people are so ignorant when they bash what they think is a foreign car, yet the very American car thay are driving (ie. Taurus) was made in Mexico!
Go figure?!

I think every country takes patriotic pride in knowing that 'good product' can be manufactured there and in knowing that it helps the local economy and employs locals. But, when it comes to car's - its a world economy and any dude that hasn't figured it out by now needs help. The car companies did -- a long, long time ago.
The Elise (and its variants) make the S2000 look like a luxury cruiser.
I've had the good fortune to drive two of the three S1 variants (Elise 190S and a 190hp Exige) and I have also driven a Euro-spec (120hp 1.8l Rover) S2.
The S2, if it makes it over here (still up in the air), will be a very fun car for the true enthusiast. The 120hp car was very fun to drive and would satisfy many people. The rumors of engine choice in the US-spec car range all the way up to a 200hp motor. Granted the US-spec car will weigh a bit more after they get through with it in the Federalization process, but it will be plenty quick and its handling will be world-class as well.
Depending on the motor that goes into the car and the changes that have to made to make it legal, I may also take the Elise plunge. Hopefully, I'll be able to afford it without getting rid of the S2000 and hopefully I can find somewhere to park it!

Probably been a good 6 weeks since we've seen another S2000 around here and I'm in FLORIDA! It's always top down weather and I still don't see them. As noted before, a lot of WTF is that when someone does come up on me. Gotta love this car!
Too many S2000s?
Hardly!
I continue to see 15 to 20 Miatas, 10 to 15 Boxters, and 5 to 10 TTs for every sighting of another S2000 here in the metropolitan Atlanta area. I doubt that these ratios will change much, but even if they did, the S2000 will continue to have them all beat.

My biggest concern is reliability. I don't want to have to move in with my mechanic!
If I could just be assured it has decent reliability -- it doesn't have to be bulletproof -- I would definitely take the plunge.
